My Top Treasure Hunting Tips
1. Bring lots of water when hunting in the desert!
2.If the collecting site is off the beaten path make sure you get to know the area before you head out. Get to know where nearby roads, rivers, creeks, mountain, etc. are. I like to use my Road and Recreation Atlas by Benchmark Maps. I also like to use a web based map at www.map.live.com. Make sure you change the map view to aerial.
3. If you are heading out alone make sure you tell someone where you are going first. And always leave a note in the dash of your car that tell the plans for your outing.
4. If you are out in the Sonoran Desert make sure you use a walking stick. It could save you from a rattlesnake bite. I came across 3 just the other weekend.
5. If you plan to hunt for fluorescent minerals in the dark try not to stray to far away from your original path (trail, road, dry creek bed, etc.). Always bring extra batteries for your light source.
2. Mineral Mountain Arizona - Small pieces of turquoise, chrysacolla, fluorescent minerals

Hi everyone today I went on a small hike and down in one of the dry creek beds I found this mystery rock. I posted pictures of it today. One side has a arrow carved in it and the other side has what looks like an asterisk carved in it. I think it might be Native American. Tom maybe you have seen something like this before. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thanks, Tom(AZrhound)

Hi everyone I just posted a new picture of one of the geodes I found on my profile. I am trying to sand and polish this one. It is my first time and I have been using sand paper that is 80 grit on a 6" air sander. I am going through a lot of sand paper and I cann't get the deep saw marks out. Please let me know if you have any advice on getting the deep saw marks out faster. Thanks Tom (AZrhound)

Cool Good Hunting and do keep us all posted. Some of us live here in the northwest but we travel all over and love to dig new places. I still find new discoveries in old collecting areas too. Yesterday I found a pocket of drusy quartz in an area I go to collect agates at. I also found a nice piece of green jasper there and for years have only found red jasper at that location. So go to it. Tom

cool stones. I have no doubt you will meet plenty of people to hunt with. Check out some of the threads and you will find people that are in your area or fairly close. One thing about us rockhounds, we travel for good digg's. Good Hunting Tom
