I love to hunt gemstones! I started in the 70's in North Carolina hunting sapphires and rubies and have hunted several places in the US for those and other stones, including Montana, California, New Mexico, South Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, and of course the diamond mine in Arkansas.
I would like to start a network of rockhounds from each state that can GPS locations to find gemstones/rocks in their state and publish a website on what is in each state, the location and if it is accessible. I know Alabama has gold, beryl, garnets, quartz, agate and I will research the locations, research the possibility of other stones here, photograph them, GPS their location and have people from each state do the same.
If anyone has any info... or has already started this project....I am not here to reinvent the wheel just to make the information free and accessible to everyone!
