I have been a rockhound for over 25 years and have learned how to cut and polish just about any stone you can think of. I have made a lot of my own equipmet and can tell you how to do it on the cheap. I have put is display cases at different shows over the years, but do not do it as much as I used to. When I do it is in the Master class competition.
So if you have a question about cutting, grinding or polishing which is the make or break of making cabs or free forms let me know and I will see if I can give you some help.

Hey Glen great info. I forgot to mention the lamp and using a good amaount of wax is very important.too. lol I haven't tried the freezing thing. Great idea. I will have to give it a try. I just got into using alcohol when faceting. I know metal won't scratch most finished stones, but there is just something about putting something against a polished pavillion of a stone to clean off the wax. lol Just a mental thing I guess. But it does work well.
I am looking at build me a sander like what you have. I need to go back and look at the pics and see your design. Once we get done with the bazaars (the wood bowls) coming up, I think that will be my next project. :-)
