Washington Agates

With Spring having Sprung here on the Eastside I have shed my winter slippers and put on my hiking shoes to scour the local roadsides on my favorite Easter Agate Hunt. Each year I am amazed at the variety, color and size of agates which I have been fortunate enough to find. This year appears to be no exception.
Having been out searching 3 different days for approx 2 hrs each I have allready been rewarded with some very nice ones. Estimated 3 day total 2-3 lbs of Columbia Basin Agates. YeeHaw

Greetings, welcome to a fellow washatonian. I live in Wenatchee, not to far away. Hey I have never heard of Columbia Basin Agate. What do they look like? Sounds like your Easter hunt was quite successful. Are you hunting up in the mountain roads or just out about about the farm lands? Just never heard of such and agate. Pretty neat.

Our rock club will be coming down to Saddle Mtn in April to do a little pet wood hunting. My son and I are looking forward to get down there and out in the field. Hopefully you left us a little wood. lol

Hey keep in touch. I am sure you have seen the Wet In Washington thread we have going on. We do have a few laughs. Be sure to join in. Keep finding them agates! Paul

Greetings and Salutations Paul,
CB Agates are my reference to the agates I find in the Columbia Basin region.99% of my finds are surface finds from the shoulders of our local Hwys and roads. I attempt to search those roads where traffic is not heavy. Will post a pic soon of the agates I have found so far this year.
Hope to see ya up there on Saddle Mtn in April...17th isn't it?Lot of wood still waiting to be dug and discovered up there. Lots of tumbling material.
I have been following the wet in washington post and expect to participate in discussions and exchanges.

It sounds like you have miles and miles of good hunting material. lol It is amazing what can be found in the road bed ballast. Dave and the Mahogany Obsidian, jbare and his fossils (railroad beds) if you haven't check out his pictures, you with the CB agates. I guessI have found things along the road as well. Lots of leaverite and glass. lol

I have to make sure what weekend it is, but I think Saddle Mtn outing is on the 12th. My understanding is that there are like 3 sections that are off limits now but they are well marked. Smart guy that purchased the mineral rights, but a bummer to loose some prime pet wood hunting areas for the rest of us.

Yeah jump in on the "wet" thread. We do have fun, but there is some serious info there too. lol Paul

Those are amazing. Very nice agates. What is interesting is they look a lot like beach agates. Now I know where the beach agates orgionated from. Our basalt flows and great floods. It all makes sense. Thanks. Paul
