Those chantrelles look very tasty. Before I became a rockhound I used to collect Boletus here in the Colorado Rocky Mts. I would like to find some chantrelles fresh from the woods, not from the store.

I have enjoyed all of the shows and wish there were many more. I loved the program about Oregon sunstones especially and hope to bring my family to do that this fall. One treasure I'd like to see Kirsten seek is our fabulous CHANTRELLE MUSHROOMS. They are plentiful in the fall throughout most of the coast mountain range, and they are some of the finest mushrooms in the world. The fall colors would also be spectacular for the program. It would be a pleasure ...

Hi all went razor clam digging with the family this weekend and had a blast. I hadn't been in quite a while and forgot how much fun it was We had 3 limits in about an hour we could have dug one more but I didn't want to clean any more than that lol. If you have never been it is definitely worth trying out. Plus they are delicious. Stayed at the Chateau in westport and had a wonderful meal down the road in Grayland at Bennets I highly recommend both places. Low tide was about 4:00pm so not a lot of time to do any rocking after clamming but we did find a few agates and some pet wood and some other interesting rocks. Tide was high this morning so not much chance for rocking today but all in all a wonderful trip. I thought it might be a fun wiki get together sometime.....some clam digging some rockhounding. Just a thought. I know this isn't a tresure so to speak but I will definitely treasure my memories of this little adventure forever. Just thought I would share with you. Thanks for the tip Tom but we ran out of time and never made it to the bay.
Take Care, Gene

Sounded interesting about selling American Ginseng, but apparently it is illegal to buy or sell Washington state wild ginseng. It appears it can be obtained for personal use in the wild, but not sold or exported without certification that it was cultivated... Seemed like an easy treasure find since I love to hike alot in the mountains:(

Well it is Morel season and if you check along river beds along the cottonwood trees, poplars, ash, and alder you may find some growing. Suavie Island near Portland is a good spot. Also Oxbow park out in Gresham on the Sandy River. I also hear that there is another Truffle season coming that lasts until June in Oregon!

Well it is Morel season! I have been going out the past couple of weeks and first you find what looks like a morel but it is actually called a Verpa. It is a false morel. A true morel has the cap connected all the way down the stem. The false have a cap that is only attached to the top of the stem like most mushrooms. They grow under Cottonwood trees along river beds. If you are into making some extra money on the Morels, get out there! I saw it on Cash and treasures along with the truffle hunts. I have been collecting them both ever since and making "EXTRA CASH"

If your interested in finding some treasures in your own areas like mushrooms and plants, I would join a local group or local forum. Great info on some of the sites. A local forum in my areas is http://s3.excoboard.com/exco/index.php?boardid=8466 It deals with mycology (mushrooms/truffles) and also wild edible plants and herbs. Great info and outings to go out on to learn what to get. This is something you can do almost anywhere!

I didn't even knew the plant grew in the United States. An interesting show. Amazing how the Forest Service regulates the harvest of the plant as well. Sort of like the Star Garnets in ID when the Forest Service sells you the permit to dig and then weights your finds. I wonder if there is a yearly harvest they don't want to exceed. What else is out there for the taking, that we don't know about.

It was great to see the new episodes. Kirsten is an excellent hostest, Becky would be a hard act to follow, but Kristen can do it. Those morels looked way tasty. I my not beable to get out there and hunt htem much myself, but I know they are good. My mouth was watering! The copper mining looks like it would be a kick and samples massive and beautiful. Kirsten, you have a dream job! lol Can't wait until the next shows.
