I have been doing this for a while and I will tell you I only use about six different styles of bit heads. I use about for sizes of each style of head. I have four different grit sizes. I have 80 grit heads for the first rough shaping. I have 2oo for next step and 8oo for the next and 12oo for the last. When using the finer grits use very light presserure or you can burn up the head and that will mean two things. one is yu have tobuy a new head. The other is you have to start that partof the piece again by going back down a grit size. Most importantly.... make sure to use lots of water and keep the piece cool. I actually submerge the piece I am working on while grinding and stop and lift it out and check the piece then grind again under water. When doing the finale finish I dunk the piece,grind a quick bit and check and dip and grind and check. Short light bursts is key. I dont grind for more than thirty seconds at a time in the finish stage and I count them in my head.
