| South Dakota The Fairburn agate is the state gemstone of South Dakota. The banded agates have weathered from the limestone of the Black Hills and have been deposited over a wide area of southwest South Dakota and northwest Nebraska. I meet Roger Clark the author of the book "Fairburn Agate"at a lecture he gave at the Crawford, Nebraska- agate swap. The book is filled with great pictures, locations, and scientific explanation of agate formation. Other agates found in South Dakota include Prairie Agate, Bubble Gum Agate, and Moss Agate similar to Montana dendritic agate. | Fairburns and be seen at the Back Hills Institute and Roger's book can be bought online at Black Hills Institute |
