"Hi Guys,

Guess I need to go down again to check out the situation in person. I'm planning to go down to the San Diego County Fair June 22nd but am taking my daughter & two friends. I'll be meeting Simon - who is no longer is associated with the Himalaya Mine - there on Sunday. If I can convince the Mom's of the other girls, maybe I can make a a "school's out" weekend and go to the Lake Henshaw Dig on Saturday, stay with my in-laws that night and then go to the Fair on Sunday.

To be honest, I'm afraid to go to the Henshaw dig - not personally afraid but just afraid of being disappointed. I was thinking last night of how much fun I would be having with the Dig if it were my Mine. I'd have an educational display about the Mine - its history and the minerals that are found and the basic geology of the pegmatites. I'd have a digital camera there to take pictures of the "catch of the day" and have those posted on those science display boards. I'd have fun and it would be a whole lot more fun and educational for everyone who came.

I'm not sure I would report the Mine to any local paper or news station, but I sure would post what I saw on every rock group I know, including the oldest Yahoo rock hounding group - LA-ROCKS - which has over 1000 members now. If anyone is ever coming to the southern California area, this is a great group to join and to post a note requesting info about possible field trips or info about rock hounding sites. Or - just searching the archives yields a wealth of info. So, a negative posting here would reach a lot of people for a long time. Ellen"
