"Lordy, what DON'T you have there in SD?? The chiastolite I purchased months ago came from SD. Where this woman lived, I have no idea, but she's now gone from ebay, so I can't find out. nbz" Well, as far as I know, we don't have obsidian. At least they haven't found it yet. I have found small pieces of jade in our road gravel, but that was probably brought down from Canada by the glaciers. Some of the fossils found here are world class. Don

This Labor Day, I went out to my favorite fossil hunting spot with my kids and their friends. It turned out to be a very exciting day! First I found my very first megalodon tooth. It is roughly 5 to 6 inches and in perfect condition. In addition, we found a strange tooth that we cant seem to identify. In the field, as I was tired and wet and muddy, I passed it off as perhaps whale and tossed it in the bucket. After a night's sleep and a shower it seems I am stumped. My latest guess is perhaps some kind of prehistoric crocodile? The root is what is particularly striking about this tooth. I have pictures posted on my profile page which I dont know if I can display in this thread as well.

Has anyone found any Cycads or have any or pics? These Fossil plants were around when the dinosaurs roamed the United States. Well I thought this might be a little too far out there for most rockers. A pickup load of these and you could buy all the pretty rocks you wanted for life. DB

Are there any fossil collectors in our group. If so what could we add to the site that would attract more fossil folks.

I also have a few, mostly Petoskey, various corals found locally, a few crinoids, brachiopods; a few things I don't know what they are. Whatever I run across while looking for something else. :) Pam

Just sharing my expierence. I remember when i was a kid living in George Town Texas i was playing in a creek and found some very weird and heavy small rocks. I took them home and didn't think much of them. Now almost 20 years later i went back to the ranch where my grandmother still lives and found 1 of the rocks laying on the ground and decided to bring it home with me along with another Huge piece i broke it off of. I put the small one on my shelf and left the big one in the trunk of my car, until i decided to clean it and then i left it at the car wash in the grass. I got online a few months later and decided to find out what it was, and uploaded some pics to Yahoo answers. I was told it was Dino Poop. The piece i have weighs about 4 lbs, and needs to be polished a little more, but was enough to get me interested in digging in that creek a little more. I plan on going over there soon. Just wondering if anyone else has any they may have found and i would love to see some pics.

I like fish fossils but for to play with in tumblers you can give me the great ,but little praised, goniobasis agate right in my big backyard. It won't be around for long if we keep growing this fast. We will miss it when we cannot go for a walk on the mountain and pick up a few fossilized tertiary snails anymore. I love people and I love my peace and quiet. I am working towards a happy medium in the way I live to keep all happy.
