"please have bill contact me at georgiasteeler@comcast.net" Hi Kellstero, If you click on either Bill's photo or user name, there is a pop up that opens and a menu with "Send Message" on the bottom left side. That way you can contact him directly and provide your email address to make sure that he sees your message.

"wantin to go treasure huntin on 2/09. in metro atlanta.any one want to join me or any good suggestions?" Try Dahlonega, Georgia Just 60 miles north of downtown Atlanta. Dahlonega was the site of the first gold Rush in the USA. A US mint was established at Dahlonega and there are mine tours and gold panning attractions. Dahlonega and Lumpkin County have been recognized as "the heart of Georgia Wine Country." The county features three vineyards and wineries that attract many tourists. The Dahlonega Square is a popular tourist destination with gift shops, restaurants, art galleries and artists' studios. Check out the following gold mines: http://www.consolidatedgoldmine.com/ http://www.crissongoldmine.com/ Crisson Gold Mine also has Gem Stone grubbing. You can find rubies, emeralds, sapphires, crystals, amethysts, garnets, and many more. It is a pleasant drive though the Appalachians which takes about a hour. Short day trip. You will go home with goodies. Bill

"My family and I will be in Ga. for about 2 or 3 weeks. I love to gem hunt and I would like to take a day trip to go hunting. I need somewhere near savannah. any suggestions? please also give me costs if you know them " Probably one of the very best sites in the Eastern United States is Graves Mountain. It is not far from Savannah just North of Augusta. Graves Mountain produces incredible specimens and gems including rutile, kyanite, lazulite, iridescent hematite, pyrophyllite, pyrite, ilmenite, muscovite, fuchsite, barite, sulfur, blue quartz and quartz crystals with a hematite coating. Don't forget the micro phosphate and phosphosulfate minerals that can be collected here. Woodhouseite, variscite, strengite, phosphosiderite, cacoxenite, crandallite along with accessory quartz, pyrite, pyrophylite, dickite, jarosite and sulfur crystals. It is a most stop for a Rockhound. It sure bests the tourist stops where the mines are salted with sapphires from Sri Lanka. The Atlanta Gem and Mineral Society over sees the mine but it open to the public. See: http://www.gamineral.org/commercial-gravesmountain.htm There are three digs coming up in April - hope that fits your schedule. Bill

Welcome! I located a couple of links that might be of some help, http://www.mammothrock.com, and http://www.gamineral.org/commercial-sites.htm which are regarding the gem and mineral show and commercial digging sites in the GA area, I bet someone there might know. Dahlonega is where a nice deposit of gold was found in the early 1800's, and reportedly GA has gold everywhere... that is where I would start! :)

Sorry I have not contacted you sooner. - Christmas and all. A web page that can give you up coming trips is : http://www.dixieeuhedrals.com/page8.html. Dixie Euhedrals owns the Hogg mine near you in southern Georgia. The mine was featured on the Travel channel's Cash and Treasures program. There are several clubs in your area that are very active. My son and I went to Gold and Gem Grubbin' in Cleveland, GA not too long ago. It was featured on the Cash and Treasures show a while back. We approached it a couple of different ways. You can either buy a half day or a day to go through the piles they have brought from the mine down by a creek (very inexpensive, but hard work), or you can buy buckets that have stones planted in them. We very much enjoyed doing both. We spent about 3 hours down by the creek and found some wonderful stones (rubies, garnets, tigers eye, emeralds, rose quartz, etc.) and then went and relaxed while we sifted through a $100 bucket where we found a bunch more neat stuff. It was a great day for Son and Dad!
