| Help us improve this site, make a Treasure Hunting Wiki Suggestion!!! |
| And now, DancingFlowers would have a word :-) |
| Welcome! There is a gigantic mine of information on the Treasure Hunting Wiki just waiting for you to explore. Hopefully this page will help you get started and more familiar with getting around. Creating pages seems to be the most challenging for our members so we have included some videos as alternates to the Wetpaint Central videos to help you along. . The videos below were located on YouTube. We hope that they will assist you with creating, adding, editing and adding flair to a page. There were several different tutorial videos out there, but these seem to be a little more user friendly. If you need help, please be sure to ask because there are always members willing to help. If you would like to post a question, please click on the DISCUSSIONS tab and on the right you will see a place to "start a new discussion". Again, you can also go to Wetpaint Central for assistance, however you will need to register there before posting. Wetpaint Central also has a series of short videos and pages to assist you with how to create a page and much more information. A good place to start is the Wiki Code of Conduct to get the general idea of the overall rules. Please be sure to see rules specific to the Treasure Hunting Wiki below. There is also an FAQ available on the Wetpaint Central Site that has information about how to add, edit and create pages. Click the link on "FAQ" that you see on this page, or copy and paste this link into your browser's address window: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/FAQ . You may register on the wetpaint site with the same user-name and password that you have here. . We hope you enjoy your membership and that you meet all the wonderful members who have contributed to this fun and educational site. There are some real geniuses here, it won't take you long to figure out who they are if you just scroll through the posts. If you are trying to locate a particular member, you may go to the MEMBERS tab and search the list of members by alphabetical, recently added, most edits, or most threads. You may also click on the MODERATORS tab to see who is responsible for administering the site. . The menu is on the left in the light blue section, and will lead to an abundance of information. (Hint: There is a lightly dotted line at the bottom of the box that you can 'click and drag' to make the menu larger or smaller in height.) The menu shows a list of topics or categories, some will have additional pages under each category. Be sure to check out the National Directory, there is a page listed for each state to guide you through different places to hunt for treasure. (Hint: Pages with sub-pages are indicated by an arrow (>) to the left of the menu item, other items are marked with a small bullet to the left). There is also a Canadian National Directory and we hope soon other National Directories to come soon. If you would like to browse before starting a new page to see if we already have information available and can corroborate with another member, you may simply click through the menu to start your adventure. . If you wish to return to this page again to learn about creating your own page, just type "Help" in the "Search this site" window at the top of the menu and a list of options will appear for each category. You will need to look for the listing "Getting Started - How to Create a Page". You may also narrow your search by clicking on the other tabs to see only a list of Pages, Photos or Threads. Good Luck and Happy Hunting! A NEW ORGANIZATIONAL MODEL HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE WIKI, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS LINK TO LEARN MORE, "Site Maintenance & Content Indexing" THANK YOU. |

| (1) Please create your own pages and do not edit other pages without requesting permission from or working with the person who originally created the page. ~ If you do not know how to look for the original creator of the page, please ask someone and they will help you find out. - (2) Please try to keep the Main Title Page for each Category as general as possible. ~ Changes should not be made to the Main Category page unless sent to the creator to request the change or update, additions may be made that are general information in nature or to add a link to other pages and information. Sub pages may be added under each category page and you may design them however you wish. The menu on the left indicates that there are sub-pages with a > to the left of the category. - (3) Photos are a great addition to any page, however if you are using photos that are not your own, please acknowledge the photographer or contributor. ~ You may do this by placing a written acknowledgement near the photo, or providing a list of acknowledgements or references. |

PLEASE POST YOUR THREAD (& photo) DELETION REQUESTS HERE AS A LINK.
I can also move the location of threads (unless they are located on a picture), and delete pictures (unless we all can, I never checked for some reason and now I can't tell). I'm already deleting the obvious stuff, but I don't feel comfortable deleting anything else without your feedback. I'll let any requests that aren't entirely your content (and not obvious) sit for a little while so all the regulars can stop it if they have a concern. I'll delete the post as I delete the request to keep this thread clear. TO REQUEST A PICTURE BE DELETED, YOU MAY JUST REPORT THE PHOTO...CLICK ON "MORE TOOLS" WHILE VIEWING THE PHOTO AND SELECT "REPORT PHOTO". One of the moderators will get to it. Moderators: Don't delete the photos that don't have an exclamation mark on them, those are auto generated based on the text associated with the photo. to see reported go to Updates/Reported/Photos http://cash-and-treasures-wiki.travelchannel.com/pageReport/questionablePhotos THIS IS A NO-JUNKITE THREAD!!!!! I WILL DELETE POSTS ONCE THEIR VALUE HAS PAST TO KEEP THIS THREAD AS USEFUL AS POSSIBLE AND MAKE IT EASY TO FIND THE PERTINENT INFORMATION. ~Zeke |

Please help us manage the site properly. The Discussion forum is the place to express your views, share information, field trips and other discussions. Please do not create a page to start a discussion. Page are to have a bigger more permanent presence. Pages should contain information, pictures, WIDGETS and other information to develop the WIKI. The same is true of PHOTOS by themselves. They should be put in a Album. Thank you for your help.

Changes coming soon!
Sometime in the next few weeks (date TBA), all Wetpaint sites will be changing from dynamic page resizing to using a standard 1024 pixel width. Note: A few pilot sites such as the Dexter Wiki, Fringe Wiki, and even Wetpaint Central are already using this new format. For more information you may visit the Wetpaint home page by clicking on My Wetpaint on the upper right corner of this page. This will mean possible changes for some pages that were changed to work with the dynamic resizing feature. If your profile or other pages look out of whack once the change takes place, please don't hesitate to ask questions as we all learn the new format. Terry |

I ran across some You Tube videos that are a little more user friendly than some of the Wet Paint Vids and have posted them on a new page for everyone to use, particularly new members. This is meant to be very basic information for the non-technical user, and I might add advanced information at a later date.
http://cash-and-treasures-wiki.travelchannel.com/page/Getting+Started+-+How+to+Create+a+Page I will be glad to add a section for "Rules to Live By when creating pages on the Treasure Hunting Wiki Site", if everyone agrees. Based on the recent message received from KWIN these are the rules that I have put together so far. #1 Please create your own pages and do not edit others work without requesting permission from the original creator. - If you don't know how to look for the original creator, please ask someone. #2 Please try to keep the Main Title Page for the Category in which you are posting as general as possible. - You may add a link to your page where you can post more information about your particular interest. - We encourage internal links as it helps members and visitors navigate the site more easily. #3 If you are using photos that are not your own, please acknowledge the photographer. - You may do this with written text, or even add a link to their information on the site, or to an external site if you have received permission from a non-member of the community. Please contribute any suggestions for more rules. I think it will be more effective if we keep it to a Top 10 (or less). I plan on eventually adding a little more information regarding customizing pages, editing colors, etc. A list of common questions that have been asked in the past about "How to" will help me to create an Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section on this page. Thanks - |
