Grandy Creek
Misc Trips

Most of my Grandy Creek finds are on previous pages. These here are first the ones from my profile (a bit redundant) and then all the jade I didn't find on my last trip:-(

jade or garnierite or what closeup
This is my favorite and first find on Grandy creek. It really fits the definition of 'Jade Slick'. The back side of this piece seems to be botryoidal-ish. The right edge is a very resent fracture...uneven I believe. I think the rock really speaks for itself.
botryoidal nephrite
Botryoidal Nephrite
Classic grape cluster bubbles of nephrite jade on a lens weathered out of serpentinite (the blackish area inbetween the globular habits). After finding 'A Little Botryoidal Joy' below, I went to the creek the next week for the express purpose of finding a bigger specimen. At the very end of the day I found it, but since then have not found any more like this.
A little Botryoidal Joy
A Little Botryoidal Joy
My first known botryoidal jade.
Priceless!!!
Grandy Nephrite
Grandy Nephrite
This was my second find on the creek. Technically a botryoidal as well, but large globs of translucent green nephrite jade. The black should be the serpentinite it weathered out of, so this would be a lens.
Jade Cross and Skull
Globular Cross
I gave this one to my wife. It's an (apparently opaque) botryoidal jade, kind of in the shape of a cross. My birthday falls on 'Talk Like a Pirate Day'..ergo this picture.
Jady Wave
Jady Wave
This is an incredibly neat piece of jade on black serpentinite. I think it counts as botryoidal, but either way I think this one is worth a lot as it is very unique. From the back side you can see how the jade is forming out from the serpentinite.
birthday serpentine
Lily's Lizard Serpentine
I think this is serpentine, or soapstone, or another form of talc. It has a very greasy feel to it. I gave this one to my niece for her birthday.
Serpentinite Rune
Serpentinite Rune
I love this one even though it's just serpentinite. I have that symbol (rune) tattooed. I applied the wax treatment to this one (not shown in this picture).
broken common

Broken Common
Mystery stuff from Grandy. Probably just pretty chert. There is a lot of chert on Grandy Creek! This one had some kind of crystally growth in the middle where I broke it. I show this one because of the wonderful (to me) color.

Once Spring hits, the creek side is covered in bamboo. I didn't find any jade (I think) even though I walked the creek for a mile in the rain. I did find this machine gun magazine though, buried in a gravel bar. I'm not into guns, so this is actually kind of neat to me even though it is just garbage...really junkite!!! What follows are some of the not jades I found that day, for what ever it's worth....

I guess this is serpentinite of some sort, but it is very pretty. The brown area is a type of stone I've seen everywhere, but I know not what it is. Compare this with 'ChatoyantSlick' (or look on page 7) from Deer Creek. The green here reflcts light and is of course soft.
HGG
HGG
I believe this is the "missing" hydrogrossular garnet from Grandy Creek. Figuring that out made the trip worth it. If this is not the HGG, then maybe, just maybe it's jade...but really, It's got to be the HGG.
aFriggingRock
aFriggingRock
I guess I'll go run outside and "test" this thing before throwing it into Junkite Creek......soft enough to scratch with a knife, ugly green and black with some white inside...no decernable pull from the magnet...into the creek with it!
PurpleGreenRon
PurpleGreenRon
An example of rodingite similar to 'PurpleInside' ( or look on page 7) from Deer Creek.
Stripes
Stripes
Light blue-green with black specks inside, hard, slight magnetic pull....junkite...maybe listwanite. Into the Creek....

I don't know what this is, do you? If so edit this description please.

Skarn maybe
T-Eggy

This stuff is everywhere, eroding out from the road side hillsides. This one I picked up because it actually reminds me of a thunderegg. I believe it is an agate filled geode.
aLittleVein
aLittleVein
Sigh, just soft whatever with a slight pull from the magnet...junk.
aVeinAgain
aVeinAgain
A little more interesting...white on serpentinite...maybe something good inside, but I really doubt it. A lot of this stuff I've picked up and realized it's neat but nothing.
ClayorChert
ClayMinOrChert
This is either chert or a clay mineral.
Hmmm
Hmmmm
I don't know, maybe something, maybe not. I'll get back on this one sometime far in the future, because I really don't care that much. I'll throw it in my practice cuttables pile.
BotryoidalBlob
BotryoidalBlob
A very interesting botryoidal on ? garnierite I think? The brown area was covered with the bubbles, but was ruined before I found it, otherwise this would be a really nice display piece. I guess these botryoidals on Grandy are chalodony, but maybe they are calcite or something.
AndThisOne
AndThisOne
Just junky serpentinite or whatever, with maybe white rodingite. I honestly don't know why I brought it back.
Three more stones, very interesting, ended up at my sister's to be waxed and put into my niece's "Fairy Garden"...Pictures soon.
