Herkimer Diamonds are 400 to 500 million years old. Found in the Mohawk valley in central New York, are world reknowned for there clarity and luster.Crystals found here are faceted by nature and have a hardness of 7, a real diamond is 10, which gives it a close race. Herkimer diamonds are actually Quartz . The thrill of opening a pocket full of Herks , is like finding the gold or treasure chest.
