I like to collect coins and other types of money items to include pennies, siver coins, military pay certificates, $2 bills, foreign coins and bills, silver and gold rounds or trade tokens, state quarters and the new presidential gold dollars. I was wondering if there is anyone else that likes this type of treasure hunting as well as the rock hounding? I am not talking about metal detecting finds this is all from stores, banks, family, friends and co workers and possible the occasional yard sale.
I don't have a really large collection at this time but I am working on it. I started with just tossing the pennies in my pocket into a coffee can, now I have two full cans and go through them every now and then to find the wheat pennies and any other rare finds that others missed. I then purchased a box wrapped in brown bag at my wifes family reunion action for $26 and when I opened it there where 50 IKE silver dollers in it. Since then I will buy $2 bills from anyone that has them mainly one co-worker that umps and when he gets paid there are normally a few bills that I buy from him. He recently purchased a storage unit that someone had abandoned, and I purchased a 5 cent and 10 cent millitary pay voichers, 2 one troy ounce pure silver rounds, a Ellis Island silver proof set half dollar and 1 dollar in case a $2 bill, a Haiti bill, a Canary Island bill and a centinial coin set in case. This is only some of my purchases or finds. Dave

As I read and read all of these threads, I thought it would be a really great idea to have a central repository of tips from those who have done it and those who are out there doing it. Also, if you have received great advice from somebody, this would be a great place to share it.
I would like to limit it to tips, with no discussion, I know that sounds mean or possible narrow focus, but it's my thought just the same. So thanking someone can be done simply by clicking on the "did you find this information useful" link at the bottom of the post. And there is no need to criticize people for what they post. Hopefully I can get a Mod to key an eye on here or to make me a Mod with limited access just to this thread.
