White and Orange, muttonfat
Muttonfat
North Fork Nooksack River
I don't know if it's nephrite or jadeite. It took me awhile to decide if it was jade, but I'm now as positive as I can be without running a bunch of fancy tests. I have a feeling the further north you prospect, the better the quality. Unfortunately this comes from a river, so there's no way of tracing the source area. And now it means you have to pick up all the white rocks you see just in case!
Black Nephrite
Black Nephrite
Port Townsend
From white to black nephrite. This one was found along the beach south of Port Townsend and was deposited glacially. With a great deal of effort I ruined this piece with a 20# sledge.
black breccia
Black Breccias
Deer Creek,Oso
Greenish to black. I don't think it's actually brecciaed, it just kind of looks like it. This is just a small stone by the way.
Blue Green White Stripe
Finney Stripes
This is my favorite piece of my favorite mystery material. It always has interesting veining and whatnot going on. Any insight would be appreciated.
oddity
RodBot
Grandy Creek
This one comes from the reaction zone and appears to show some botryoidalism (you'll see a bubble on it). I really don't know what to make of it. I keep it in the display cabinet because it is so neat and it's creamy greenish-blue color hints at something good. The color is hard to photograph with all that rodingite white stuff covering it, but this shot somehow caught it ("wet"). Actually I think the color here is off a little...the album pics are closer but not as clear. This is possibly a pseudomorph....BOTRYOIDAL JADE 99.99% SURE
Finney First
Princess
Finney Creek
Presumed jade, but uncertain.
Translucent Deer
Translucent Pebble
Deer Creek, Oso
I feel that this is jade, but it could be a lot of things. But see below.
Deer Stand
Deer Stand
Deer Creek, Oso
This is most definitely a jade in my opinion. To me the black serpentinite on pieces like this gives it away. But see similar color and translucency above.
Glob1
Glob1
Grandy Creek
Fifty-fifty chance.
Glob 2
Glob 2
Grandy Creek
Fifty-fifty chance.
Oregon jade pebble
Jade Pebble
Pistol River Oregon
Cute, huh? But the color is awesome. Its actually too small to identify properly. It is translucent on the edge.
Black stripe
Black stripe
Grandy Creek
This one illustrates the difficulty of distinguishing the chert on Grandy Creek from the jade...I don't know which this one is. Apparently the ultramafic contacted the country rock (meta-chert) producing pieces (everywhere) of meta-chert and serpentinite with nephrites...i.e. they may exist in the same rock. At least that's where I'm at in my interpretation of this stuff...very nerve-wracking!
Blue Blade
Blue Blade
Finney Creek
A pretty colored unknown foliated/layered hard rock. likely a jade
Mystery Sill
Mystery Sill
Grandy Creek
I guess this is some form of schist. Perhaps that's the missing Grandy creek HGG?
Pilly
Pilchuck Creek
Like a blackwall rodingite but with opaque jade apparently.
Ugpill
Ugly Pilchuck
'nuff said! TYPICAL LIGHT COLORED PILCHUCK JADE...SEE PILCHUCK SPRING '09 PAGE FOR MORE SPECIMENS.
Three Jade Pebbles
Three Jade Pebbles
Light colored from Oregon, dark green from the North Fork of the Nooksack.
White/Orange layering
Firepit Jade?
Finney Creek
Orange/white foliated? jade-like, not common, hard, from Finney Creek. My Brother picked this one up while collecting material for his fire pit. Luckily this one was set on top, decorativly, and so it was not permantly cemented to the pit. You can see the soot marks on the right side. It's still in the fire pit though (he likes it). I'm hoping to find another one to run tests on, or cut open.

Similar stuff from pilchuck (spring '09 collection...cut as well)...white inside...jade.
Another Nooksack Ax
Another Nooksack Ax
North Fork Nooksack River
This might just be schist, but the color of the stuff seems like a jade
Yellow/brown
Yellow-Brown
Grandy Creek
Its hard. Seems like the core of one of those serpentinized schists, so perhaps its a tremolite or jade, or maybe different inside. Its neat.
Fuzzy
Fuzzy Translucency on Rodingite
Grandy Creek
This is just one of those difficult rodingites that my lack of knowledge of rocks causes me to think everything might be a jade. It's not, but I want to identify it.
Pill/Bear
Pill-Bear
Unknown
OK. I need a lot of help on this one!

Compare with 'OldPilchuck' I picked up at the same time (JG v. 2.0 Pilchuck pg 1)
Pilchuck Duck 2
Pilchuck Duck
I really regret breaking thisone, one of the first pieces of jade I found.
