is there any treasure to be found in massachusetts besides our sports teams? I would be interested in anything fun to either dig for or look for. Gold, stones, fossils, etc....

"yes, there most certainly is an old silver mine in sterling...near lake waushacum. my father took me there when i was younger and there is actually still a tunnel going into the ground. if you're not familiar with the area then it is NOT easy to find. there is just a trail on the side of newell hill rd with old granite posts on either side of it. walk down the trail a few hundred yards and there is a rock outcropping on the right hand side (it sort of looks out of place) and if you walk around to the backside of it you will see the tailings piles from the mine and the actual shaft itself. i cant seem to find any info on the mine but im sure either the town library or historical society would know something." A number of sites are listed on the National Directory. Have you been to any of the sites. Locations are listed but no rating are given. Bill
