Well if your interested in metal detecting and don't know much about it you may want to go along with someone that does. There is a local prospecting group that also has members that use metal detectors on a regular basis. If your in the Portland Oregon areas check out http://www.nwmpc.com/ They have lots of outings and you can learn a lot.

Hello, I am new here and just wanted to leave a message that might help someone with their choice of detectors. I hunt for civil war bullets and have recently purchased a Fisher 1270 to use along side my Fisher 1266X. Both of these detectors work great. So, for anyone looking to get into detecting, you definetely should consider the Fisher 1270. It goes a little deeper than the 1266 and is great in trashy areas. I have had great luck with both models.
