I am a serious Entrepreneur seeking funds to start a
new type of Alternative Energy based Motor Company. Through the start-up phase I plan to capitalize on smaller markets in industry other than the Auto Industry. This strategy will allow such a company to grow in several different markets to gain the momentum and financial clout needed to address the Automotive Industry. Banks and lenders are not responsive to new business start-ups in the Alternative Energy Field because they leverage their earnings by investing in the petroleum industry. I have assembled a list of places that are worth searching with metal detectors in and around the St. Louis bi-state area. But many of these places are not the sort of places one would want to traverse alone. I am looking for some friends that are interested in covering large areas that have not been previously thought of by other treasure hunters. You can keep what you find. My purpose for doing this is because there is often safety in numbers when searching river banks, wooded areas, and other potentially dangerous areas that most people don't usually investigate alone. Also, if anyone knows of any good pawn shops or other sources that handle used metal detectors in the St. Louis, MO. area, I am interested and would like to check them out. You can forward any commets to my email at carlstone@netzero.net Thanks, and I'll be looking forward to hearing from those with questions or comments.

Well if your interested in metal detecting and don't know much about it you may want to go along with someone that does. There is a local prospecting group that also has members that use metal detectors on a regular basis. If your in the Portland Oregon areas check out http://www.nwmpc.com/ They have lots of outings and you can learn a lot.

We are going to retire soon and want to begin treasure hunting. We are asking for opinions of the best beginner metal detector to learn on, without becoming too frustrated with all the bells and whistles. We live in Alaska and have done some small panning and want to do more now that we will have the time. Any suggestions?

Hello -
I'm looking to get an entry level metal detector that will detect in salt water (not fully submerged) more like wet beach areas AND regular dry areas as well. I'm so confused on what type to get. Some manufacturers say you need a salt water specific one but since I don't live at a beach I don't want to spend that kind of money but when I take it on trips I want to be able to use it as well. Any suggestions?

Just wanted to share an experience with other metal detector owners. Recently, I went into some woods where I heard there was a civil war battle that was completely unmarked. I assumed it was just some state land and OK to go on. It was not. It was private with some small Posted signs I didn't read. Well, when I came out of the woods the land manager and the police were waiting for me. My truck was about 10 minutes from being towed and the manager was debating on having me arested! He wanted me fined at bare minium. The police officer was very nice and I was very apologetic. Fortunatly, neither happened. Although , they still could have me taken in for trespassing even now.
I just want to emphasize to anyone out there to find out the owner of the property you are going on and get permission or don't go. It is not worth it, trust me. Learned my lesson the hard way.

Hello, I am new here and just wanted to leave a message that might help someone with their choice of detectors. I hunt for civil war bullets and have recently purchased a Fisher 1270 to use along side my Fisher 1266X. Both of these detectors work great. So, for anyone looking to get into detecting, you definetely should consider the Fisher 1270. It goes a little deeper than the 1266 and is great in trashy areas. I have had great luck with both models.
