Location: A newly-discovered Pleistocene fossil plant locality within the Mobile-Tensaw Delta in southwest Alabama is producing abundant macrofossil remains of Liquidambar, Nyssa, multiple Carya species, multiple Quercus species, Betula, Carpinus, Pinus, and other taxa. Many of the most well-preserved specimens are fruits, although leaves and rhizomes have also been recovered

The Mobile River is in the northern portion of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta valley. Even though this area is commonly referred to as a delta, apparently the more correct terminology for its particular geography is ‘drowned alluvial plain and valley’.

The Mobile County River DeltaMarina andcampground offers access to the beautiful ecosystem of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Located in Creola, it was purchased by the Mobile County commission with $1 million in Coastal Impact grant funds. Facilities and features include RV and tent camping, cabin rentals, playground, bath house, laundry, lake fishing, river fishing, launch ramp, covered boat slip rentals, houseboat dockage, bait and tackle, limited groceries and canoe rentals. The Marina is located at the end of Dead Lake Road (take exit 22 off 1-65 and follow signs). Reservations and information can be obtained by phone at 251-574-2266.

General description:Located in the city of Gulf Shores on the coast of Alabama, white sun-kissed beaches, a surging surf, seagulls and seashells greet you at Gulf State Park. Consisting of 6,150 acres with two miles of sugar white sand beaches, Gulf State Park has modern and primitive camping, cottages, trails and fishing.
