| What this area is known for: 1.Thundereggs 2.Petrified Wood 3.Agate Materials 4.Obsidian | Biggest finds in this area? Very unusual and large Thundereggs with a large variety of matrix and agate filled centers. Sizes run from 1" to over 1 foot in diameter with generally a dark red/marron colored outside matrix surrounding cream colored and multi-colored agate sometimes hollow cores. 2. Wide variety found throughout the state, most noteable Marston and McDonald near Ashwood Oregon, Mcdermitt, and Sweethome. 3. Almost any type of agate you can find, Oregon has it. Plume, moss, tube, beach, carnelian, jasper, you name it, we probably have it. 4. Some of the best gem quality obsidian can be found in Oregon. One location alone has over 32 varieties found at Glass Buttes near Burns. Mahogany, gem black, triple flow, rainbow just to name a few. |

| Best time of year to go: Depending upon when you want to go: Winter time--to the beach for carnelian, jasper, blue agates. Rest of year after it dries out, before it gets too hot--petrified wood, agate material, obsidian, and lots of thundereggs. |
