Was a beautiful day uptop Sadlle Mtn today as we arrived around 11:30 am.Slight breze, not to hot just right but still managed to work up a sweat trying to keep up with the two youngNs (8& 16).There mother has just recently joined the local club and is quite enthusiastic when it comes to hunting for rocks,Anyrocks.Very light pressure as I only saw two others digging.Sure is pretty up there. We called it quits at 2pm with 3 buckets of nice, fist size tumbling material.Took them back to that hole where Jeff ,Paul and I dug a month ago.We enlarged that hole somewhat and took out 1/2 dozen nice size pieces.

OK, we're hooked! But we want to approach this slowly and logically. First going out on weekends then on a week or two vacation, and then to be a rockhound into retirement. We're in Seattle and if anyone knows of anything in this state or more importantly, where to start, we would be most appreciative.
Doug.

I was up at Hansen creek this weekend and was told by three separate people that the active claim above the mineral council claim is now open to the public and owned by the mineral council due to non payment and complaints from collectors. Can anyone confirm this?

We went on a day trip out to Adna today and the pullover spot and the other side of the street with the primitive road are plastered with 'No Trespassing' signs. What happened?
I thought that was BLM land. Is it privately owned or recently purchased? I know Lucas creek has had some shady digging practices this year (and I noticed some similar issues at Adna but not quite as severe) but the signs differ from there. I hope the end is not here...... I was just getting my feet wet. Other than the newly posted signs nothing seems to be different; no clear cutting, no houses going up, no filed in pits....... Confused and super duper bummed, Brennan

My girlfriends' parents have place around Maple falls, Washington. Does anyone know of any places where you search for minerals in the region. We are looking for somewhere easy to get to. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would like to extend an invitation this weekend for a trip to Vesper Peak, WA this Sat-Sun. It will be a backpacking trip, stopping short of the peaks to camp. It is about 4 hours up and steep, but otherwise your basic Washington hike. The weather is looking acceptable. We will be looking for orange grossular garnet and maybe stopping on the way up or down for some peacock ore. Strictly BYOB. if you need certain equipment I may be able to help.

Just got back from Hansen creek lower dig site today and found some new interesting stuff that I didn't know was there. One small almost perfect cube(1/4") geothite pseudomorphed after pyrite and one broken one that would have been 3/4" with a single crystal growing out of it. And also just above the hole I was digging in was a clay concretion laying under a large rock. I'll post pictures later but I was wondering if anyone has ever found anything like that up there. Also found some more amethyst crystals but not as large as my last one. Thanks all.

I've only been to Quartz Creek for thunder eggs a couple times but I love digging up there. The last time I was there I drove around the roads for about 10 maybe 15 miles trying to find the second location where the geodes are found but I had no luck. I found a road cut with some smaller thundereggs about the size of berries but none were hollow. It was just a clay road cut anyway. Does anyone have any idea where the geode location is up there and can you kindly post directions. Thanks for your help. Happy hunting everybody.

Was up at the upper level today- (thanks Syonix) and ran into a couple of stumbling blocks I hadn't heard or read about.
First- there is a gate that is locked on the road, where the larger shooting range is on your left. (We walked up, no big deal, but for some folks it might be.) Then- some one has clearly moved into the parking area by the trail head that leads down to the site. You have to walk through their living area to get to the trail. Trailer, generators, a dog run, and a nice rock pond (!) There is a dump truck parked out on the road. What's up- does anyone know? There are no No Trespassing signs anywhere, and specifically not on the gate that locks off the road. The up side is that they have cleaned up that little target shooting area- trash and bottles etc.

Does this sound interesting??
I have secured permission from a private party, the use of a cabin or two along the Naches river about 12 miles west of Naches. Due to the elevation of Timberwolf, my thought is to shoot for a Wiki friends get together sometime in August... The owners are rock friendly and will most likely join in, and I am very greatful for their kindness, generosity, and willingness to open their doors to host this adventure. If this seems interesting, Please check your schedule and let me know what works for you...or doesnt. I'd like to coordinate this so that as many us that would like to attend, can. There are also plentiful camping sites in the area for those that wish to pitch a tent. Those of you with camp trailers and motorhomes should have no problems finding space nearby as well and are encouraged to bring them if you have them. Space in the cabins is obviously limited, so to be up front, first come first served...I'll try to have a better idea of the number of beds available by the end of next week...or sooner if response is favorable. Please email me here and let me know if you are interested, when available, and if you'll be interested in cabining tenting or home away from homing :) I'm also looking for input, as I've never coordinated anything like this before...so all comments, questions, and suggestions will be warmly received! Thanks and Happy hunting!! Ron

HI there everyone,
This is something my brain has been wrapped around since I was a kid. I am not a kid anymore but can't get rocks off the brain. We have no money and so for fun I have been taking the kids to rock hunt in some creeks from here to the in-laws house. I would live it if you all would give us some ideas where we can go for fun and great rock/treasure hunting in southwest Washington. Thanks, Netty Jeanette Weaver

Has anyone been to Hansen creek or Cedar ponds? I am working on a job at by Cedar ponds and drove back by the lake the other day and talked to a local. He says the entire area around the lake is private property.
Hansen creek sounds like a fun day trip.
