| This will give you a bit of an idea what it takes to find a rough and then facet the rough into a beautiful gemstone. Sorry for the quality of some of the pictures. They aren’t the best but it does give the general idea. |
| In the beginning, There was a rock, but this rock had blue in it. | It is a nice blue. Now we have to get it out of the rock! The red flakes are not blood, just garnet fragements from previous rock breaking operations. |
| Now you can see it. | A little better view This weighs about 9 carats, but there are a lot of flaws – inclusions – and will only result in a small stone. |
| The stone is prepared for faceting. It is ground down to remove inclusions (flaws) and to round it out. Once shaped it is attached to what is called a Dop, which is what holds the stone during the faceting process. Poof, it is Dopped! | Cutting the Pavilion, the bottom of the stone. Where do you find your Aquamarines? We thought we would find some at Emerald Hollow, but don't think we did. My husband and I think they are nice stones, as well. Your info on faceting is very involved; we knew it wasn't an easy procedure.
