Maine
I am going to Maine on business and will be gone for the week. Hope to get in some Rock Hounding. Maine is famous for its tourmaline and other precious gems. If I get rich I we have you all come here for a big party. I am looking forward to next spring's big rock get together in SD. I will contact Two Hearts about camper set ups. Or (DB) if Custer Park has have better accommodations we could stay there an hit several sites.

Gemboree
Lets think through the South Dakota Gemboree for The Treasure Hunters Wiki . Let's settle on a date. . How about a date in June or over Labor Day. The CRAWFORD ROCK SWAP is over the Labor Day Weekend, September 4,5,6, & 7th, 2009 and is the Fairburn Agate get together. Field trips are planned. Here is a link for the Crawford Rock Swap and Custer State Park.
http://www.lakotafairburn.com/shows.htm http://www.sdgfp.info/Parks/Regions/Custer/custersp.htm
At the State Park there are RV Hooks Ups, Camping, Cabins, Lodges (hotels) fishing, herds of wild life, and it is in the center of all the great Rockhounding. There are great National Parks within a short drive: Badlands National Park, Wind Cave National Park, Jewell Cave National Monument, Mount Rushmore, and there is two great museums: SD School of Mines, and Black Hills Institute. Specimens to collect in the area include Tee Pee Canyons Agate, Tourmaline, Beryl, Rose Quartz and numerous other minerals. At Two Hearts there is Fairburn Agate, Moss Agate, Barite Crystal Clusters, Bubble Gum Agate, Prairie Agate, Great Marine Fossils and colored Jaspers. Bill

Mineral Council Project
i have been appointed by the Washington State Mineral Council to act as their representative to determine what actions the Council can take to retain access to private lands in Washington.
Specifically this includes three current problem areas: Lucas Creek, Adna and Studebaker Creek.
In our efforts we should all strive to make this an example for other problem areas.
Objectives are coalescing along several lines:
To draft code of conduct building upon the rockhounders code of ethics that incorporates the concerns of all constituencies. To seek official endorsment of this statement by the regulatory authorities.
To determine private land mineral rights owners and managment entity concerns for each site in question and offer specific constructive solutions. Club or Council sponsership of sites, private joint ventures and small stream restoration projects are all possibilites.
To establish increased credibility for clubs and club members. We need very good PR to help reverse the increasing pace of closures and regulatory restrictions. This is an exceptional challenge in the face of the greed exhibited by the plunderers who reside almost exclusively outside of our community.
Please contrbute your suggestions to this thread. There are a lot of potential tasks that will contribute to these objectives. I will put the objectives and tasks together as the ideas converge.
Regardless, contacting Weyerhauser is on the critical path. To respect their privacy, please send me suggested contact indivduals by private message. And if anyone knows the underlying mineral rights ownership for these tree farms, please post that info.
Me, I need some sleep...
