Threads
I was just reading the thread on being able to delete your own photo. It brought to mine some thing that has been bothering me for some time. Myself i don't care if i can if i can delete any pictures of this site, I would not have put them here if i was worried about some one taking the for ther own personal use. From my point of view, i think that we might also talk about posting to many thread for one subject. Myself have quite posting much on the Discussion form, because there are becoming to many one line thread, to a question that could have been answered on some other thread, inside of starting a new one it,s just a wast of space that is just my opinion from a newby rock hound.

Biggs/ Rufus Oregon
"No, most of what we collected was south of Biggs near the old jasper mine. It appears that the ODOT uses the place we went to to dump all the rock and dirt that fall off the cliffs and onto the highway. Took pics today of all our finds including those from the canyon above Rufus and will be posting them when I get the chance. Dave" I will post some pics of my Oregon collection. I love the Oregon jaspers and agates The Biggs jaspers are one of my favorites. Bill

I'd love any info re: Holly Blue in Oregon..
Years ago a good friend toled me about a beautiful stone. "Such a bitchin color," he said, very excited. "Only in Oregon he added. It's called Holly Blue, and its rare."
I had no reason to doubt his knowledge. Perhaps the story, was just that..a story. Or maybe not, and that will be, Fun in the Sun, for us this summer !

Dugway Geodes
Someone had a thread about visiting Dugway and they found a lot of geodes. I would appreciate seeing that one again, whoever made it. I will be stopping there next month on my way back from Oregon and Nevada for opals. Thanks

I'm new so don't crack my thundereggs
Welcome aboard JJDiamond. I'm not from Oregon. I'm from South Dakota. But there are many nice members on here from Washington who would be glad to swap rockhounding tales with you. Many are familiar with the good spots to rockhound in Oregon. If you ever decide to travel east to South Dakota, There are about 5 of us over here who would be glad to take you to some good houndin spots. Just come over to the Fairburn Agates thread and give us a shout.

Identifying potential Thunderegg (and other treasure) localities
Hi All,
I trip (literally! I have the sore ankles to prove it!) around the more remote and forsaken parts of Oregon and Washington quite a bit. What do you all look for (tells) that a locality near you might have something interesting?
During the wandering process I have discovered a massive amount of fossils, crystals, agates and pertified wood, however I am completely naive to the proess of locating something which may have to be excavated. I know there are rules about digging pertaining to the specific land you intend to dig on but, what do you look for at your favorite sies/roadcuts?
I have been reading about the relationship between perlite and thundereggs, and I have not quite been able to wrap my brain around what I am looking for. I found a baseball sized round nodule (I have not cut it in half so I have no clue what it contains) in a loose popcorny rhyolite ashbed I was working for crystals and fossils and I didn't think thundereggs occured in that particular locality (20 or so miles outside Antelope). I've been to Richardsons and have dug eggs there but that's it. Do all beds look similar and have the same composition?
What do you watch for in roadcuts? What is your favorite rock to hunt?

Graveland Point
One of my favorite Western Agates is Graveyard Point. Has anyone collected at the site recently? I have a great deal on high quality Graveyard. What a weird name for such a beautiful agate. You would think it would be called Autumn Folage Agate or Oregon Showy Plume Agate. Good GP is selling for a great deal for rough and finished pieces.

It is a good day and sad day!
So I'm not the only one sitting home this weekend feeling sorry for myself! I had a trip planned to the Mojave for onyx, but now I have to drive down to San Diego to reclaim a car that a "friend" was supposedly buying - long story - BIG mistake.
However, I got my treasure swap box from Andy yesterday and looked thru it this morning. It is nice to have some pieces of Saddle Mountain pet wood from Andy & Tom so when I read that thread, I can identify with it. And both sent some carnelian. We don't have that in So Califonia and we definitely don't have real streams or rivers.
Go play with some of your wood or other stones to cheer yourself up! Ellen
