Marylands State Gemstone Scam.
No such thing as Patuxent River Stone unless Lee & Ward think that common iron-stained quartz gravel is now recognized by the GIA as a legitimate gemstone.lol How did these two clowns pull this scam off on the citizens of Maryland.

The Last Geode that I picked up for the day <WOW>
It started to snow heavily, I couldn't see the difference between the rocks anymore. This one was at my feet, so it was the last one that I picked up before returning home to Maryland, It is an Awesome Dugway Geode

Utah - need some hunting grounds near Salt Lake City for a long wkend
I'm skiing Snowbird for a week (March 14th) and then staying in Lehi (south of Salt Lake) for 2 days. I'm renting an SUV and going to Dugway for one whole day of geode pickins. (I've been there once last year and it was awesome).
I love to cut and cab rocks - where should I go for my second day? I'm from Maryland and I don't know much about Utah (but I will rent a GPS). I've heard about Topaz mountain but I won't have the gear for hard rock work (just what I can pick up at a local harware store). I fly back to Maryland the next day (thank god for the USPS Flat Rate shipping boxes) so I'll be leaving hammers and chisels behind.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. If it is great stuff - I'll cut you a "thank you" cab.

Any good stuff in VA?
Of course.. Take for instance the Morefield mine, where Amazonite is located.. Then you have the Fairy stone Park.. Where the "Fairy Stones" have been located.. Well not at the park but just down the road.. The If your more into the "poorman's" aspect of mining (which we are) there are many Sluice in the VA area to do some great Sluicing.. Mainly or the one you might even catch us at is VAcity gem mine. This doesn't mean we haven't done our share of "digging" just means we're getting older. But hey I get calls from time to time asking me to come out and Identify some minerals. Did so not to long ago.. Turned out to be Tourmalated Quartz Locate here In Maryland.

Who Has Any Good Ideas for Kirsten's Next Trip?
I live in Maryland and during a recent 2 day trip to Utah I had a blast rockhounding the desert, I was directed to an area just outside of Vernon Utah where Wonderstone abounds on BLM land. I sent home about 70 pounds (thank god for the USPS flat rate shipping boxes).
The second day I spent a magnificent drive on the Pony Express trail through the Utah desert to the Dugway Geode beds. I had hoped to collect there all day but a freak desert snowstorm stopped my hunting after only a few hours (I still sent home 130 pounds of geodes). If you look in the right spot, you literally have to walk on geodes to carry your geodes back to your vehicle (I'll be posting these pictures soon).
Both areas are free to the public (except fuel costs - they are way out there). I beleive that Kirsten would have a great time in these 2 very beautiful places that are very close to other (and on BLM land).
Feel free to email me for directions to these 2 areas.
