Connecticut
My Boyfriend and I live in Manchester, CT. We are new to the idea of treasure hunting and are excited about places in Connecticut (if there are any) or areas close by. I have a small amount of experience in panning for gold. We are interested in gem stone and gold treasure hunting. What kind of group are you trying to put together?

Quartzsite Field Trip with Bob Jones
"Bob is somewhat of a legend in the rockhounding arena. Have enjoyed his many contributions to the rock & gem magazine and Lapidary in general. Isn't he from the West side of Washington State rgeditor ? Aman" Nope, he's originally from Connecticut but has been in Arizona for donkey's years. He was very involved with the Tucson Gem & Mineral Society, but now he's a kind of roving good will ambassador for the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies.

Treasure in Massachusetts
Here is a list I got off of the internet. It hasent been updated since 2000. You should be able to google each of the clubs and get information on where and when the meet as well as contact information if you need assistance. Quite a few of the mineral clubs usually host a mineral show each year that is operated by members. So this is usually a good place to meet and talk to the members if you want to get a feel of what the club is like before going to a meeting.

Help! Geology programs in peril
Hi all,
Thought many of you would be interested in some rather disturbing events that have been/are going on with university geology programs. In the last year, several well-respected university geology departments have close, including those at SUNY-Albany and the University of Connecticut (I think there are others as well that I am forgetting). This is part of an ongoing pattern where earth science is either deemed unnecessary for a university, or were it is demoted by putting a handful of geologists in a potpourri department. The latest manifestation of this is happening in FLorida, where the geology programs at the two most prominent state universities (Florida State and the University of Florida) are in serious peril. I here that the department at FSU may be eliminated, and the one at UF is facing such severe cuts that it will be crippled. You can read more about it at:
http://www.flascience.org/wp/?p=964
Given the strong interest of people on this board in geology and related topics, hopefully some of you (especially those living in FLorida) will write to the president, provost, and dean (addresses given on the URL above) or contact your legislators reminding them of the importance of geologic education.
thanks
Phil

Mid West
"It is amazing that with all of the rockin' you have around there that there is a thread or 2 going nuts.
Btw, how are the kidney agates doing?? Anything large enough to facet?? lol However, this is something I hope you never find again. Having given birth to my fair share of the KA's I don't wish it upon anyone. lol But they sure facet up good. ;-o
You still working a lot?
Paul " Working a bunch. I have done several jobs for Wal-Mart and other clients, a job in Wichita, a couple in Connecticut, non up Washington way, I am headed to Ohio for a job next week. The weather is great and I need to hit the rock trail. I am smelling the scent in the air. Would love to have time to hit the great Ohio fossil beds. No more Kidney Agates THANK GOD. A small stone feels like passing a live porcupine. Billie and I have found a nice site not far from the house that has fossil in agate that polishes beautifully. It is on the War Eagle river and has a variety of jasper and pudding stone. What have you been up to as far as prospecting is concerned? Bill
