Wyoming Jade
I've been to museums in the southern part of wyoming that have jade that has been collected by individuals that found it scattered across the ground. Does anyone know where to find this jade.
Also there is places in the state near fossil butte Nat'l Mon't where a person can go on private property and look for fish fossils. All he has to do is split what they find with the landowner. does anyone know any more about this.

Jade Junkee
I just can't stand that everyone went out this weekend and I stayed at home taking pictures of my not jade rocks so I'm off to Finney and Deer creek to hunt for the elussive white jade. I wish I had stuck with agates, (the gateway stone) at least I'd know what I had!

Jade in New England
I just watched the episode on Jade found on the coast of California and was wondering if Jade has ever been found on the coast of Cape Cod? I'm only asking this because on Several vacation trips to the outer Cape I would walk the beach and find green stones that resemble Jade. The small stones have that marbeling like Jade and are light in colour. NO, there not sea glass, there stones. Any ideas out there?

Washington Jade Rendezvous
Yeah, that's right....Jade.
I thought I'd start a jade rendezvous for Washington...just a show and tell event for serious WA jade hunters to show everyone else what they have and trade stories. Maybe hold one this spring (late). Suggestions, sites and dates appreciated. It could just start out as a wiki rendezvous but I'll personally email the WA folks not on the wiki to join as well...and whereever else I can put out the word. I know Aaron knows some folks and I bet Redrummd would like to come as well...maybe he could host in fact!? He has a property that folks can camp on and a shop on the primises....I'll email him. All thoughts welcome.

Johny Appleseed - A tremendous source of Washington Jade
This weekend I decided to head back to an area near Darrington in the hopes of locating the Oso, Deer Creek Jade source. I am still spinning from my weekend discoveries. A major lawsonite source, and a major Jade, and Grossular Garnet source. I stumbled on an area that was more rich in minerals then I have ever seen in my life. I even found what appears to be Eclogite, or blue schist. I saw large translucent apple green jade boulders, small rocks medium rocks, and Jade in cliff faces. I am revealing my theory of at least how some of the Jade ended up in the North Fork of the Stillaguamish, Oso - Deer Creek, Pilchuck Creek, Bear Creek, and other local creeks possibly including Finney Creek. As of this evening I believe we can thank the lumber companies for this. They mined Jade, and top loaded to make mountain roads rather then digging out roads. They filled creeks with Jade boulders, and then put smaller rocks on the top followed by Jade gravel, and then soil, in essence building French drains. This made extremely sturdy roads, that were very tough, and stable for logging the old growth forests. Over time the roads would lose rocks and they would top fill the deeper areas with larger Jade boulders, and follow the same pattern smaller rocks on top, and gravel on the top followed by a thin layer of soil.
The old growth lumber companies of the years past spread the Apple Green Jade far and wide in order to build roads to harvest old growth, This is my theory, I am a bit perplexed as to why I've never heard anybody share this, however, I'm betting its a high probability from what I've seen over this weekend.
Thanks,
Aaron

Finney Creek
When I first went to Finney Creek, I wasn't looking for jade but rather hematite, as noted in Bob Jackson's guide book. I don't know that i found it that first trip ( I was digging in the schisty roadcut, but not the ones up Gee Point, as the road was blocked. My last trip to the creek, last week, I brought alone some magnets ( as there is so much serpentinite up there it is a very quick diagnostic tool too discredit it as jade.) That's how I was able to figure out the hematite finally. One boulder I found i picked up (or tried to pick up0 surprised me and I nearly through-out my back....that's some heavy rock man! :-) Great book Bob.

Enjoy, comment, laugh or not, there it is. :-)
I've already started cutting into a lot of pieces and will update later this week once I get tired of cutting or break my old little tile saw, which ever comes first.

Zeke finds the most amazing specimin ever from Deer Creek
Alright. Pictures are up. Just one of about 60 pieces from the trip...it was a good day on Deer Creek! It will take me a day of photographing, and a day or two to get a gallery up of the rest of the haul with good descriptions and a "trip report" Including the second attempt at recovering the Jade Stele, or "Zeke's Folly". We did bring back a large jade boulder too big for me to wiegh properly, but the stele will have to wait until I can get at least 3 able bodied folks together at the same time. It was great fun hunting with Aaron. It's really nice to be able to show off your finds in person to someone who can appreciate them. My family and friends mostly just humor me, I know they're thinking "wow, that's great...a rock".:-)
Pictures up in a second.

Washington Jadeite, Nephrite and Grossular Garnet..
Hi All,
Does anybody here have any experience Jade hunting in Washington? Jadeite is available in Eagle Creek, Snohomish County. Nephrite, Serpentine with 6+ hardness, Grossular Garnet, and not sure if Jadeite is in Deer Creek, OSO, Washington. Skagit County has multiple Jadeite sites. Anybody here have experience with the sites, and pictures of different mineral rocks from them? Its pretty tough unless you know what you are looking for, so pictures of river rocks, their identifications, and finished product especially gemmy finished product will be awesome.
Thanks,
Aaron

I posted some pics of the rocks that I have found over the years and the ones from my grandmothers collection, the one with the green stone on the right of the quarter, thats the one I think might be a jade, and on the left is the natural polished pet wood, the pics not the best but I can always redo.enjoy.

A valid scratch test?
Hello all,
I was attempting to perform a scratch test using a stainless steel butter knife. I attempted to scratch something I suspected may be jade. It scratched. I then scratched something I was almost certain was Jade, and it also scratched. Lastly, I attempted to scratch a large quartz crystal and it also scratched but not as much. It seemed more resistant. but it did dig in lines, and it did chip off a corner as well in multiple locations where it was hard. I performed this test by applying pressure and then digging in while pushing. Is this a valid way to do a hardness test? Can somebody give me a better idea on how to do this test?
Thanks,
Aaron
