  • Hunting in Eastern North Carolina If any one has any ideas I would appreciate it. I just bought my son a metal dectector for his birthday and I was wondering does any one know of a great place to use it? I figure with the history of the state there should be some interesting sites to explore.

  • Where in North Carolina will they let you dig at the mine itself? The next gem hunt I go on I want to go to the mine myself and dig. I think it will be more exciting and more of a chance to find the good stuff and not something that has been sifted through are salted. If anybody knows of a place in N.C. are any other state close to Alabama,I sure would appreciate it.
    Thanks,Brenda

  • Metal Detecting in TN
"Has anyone been to either TN or eastern NC to metal detect? We'll be traveling there this fall and would like to check out some places that allow it. Thank you."
Just before the entrance to the battle of Shiloh is Civil War relic shop. The owner is an expert on metal detecting Civil War relics. He could be a good source of collecting sites in Tennessee The state of Tennessee and Virginia were at the center of the Civil War.
http://www.shilohrelics.com/ The owner has been the civil war expert on Antiques Roadshow.
North Carolina was the Eastern State that produced more gold than any other state. The Uwharrie Mountains are the heart of the gold regions. See the North Carolina National Directory on the left menu.

  • Treasure Hunting It seams their are a alot of places to go hunting for treasures but you keep on giving re-runs of the same shows. For example up in the mountains of Colorado next to the town of Cripple Creek their is another town called Victor. This town was burnt to the grown and rebuilt back in the cowboys and indian times. Everthing that was burt in this town was put in one area, that area is now a dump site for the town but the old area of the dump site is known only to a few including the worker at the dump site, if you get my drift. I have seen people return with the old jugs and bottles with different colores from this site. Another place to go after a storm is the treasure coast of Florida. How about the Diamond State Park in Arkansas, or safire and ruby hunting in Montana and Noth Carolina. How about gold hunting in Georgia or North Carolina, or the topaz in Texas. It seems that there are far more places to go.

  • Treasure around Gatenlenburg Tn.
"We will also be in Pigeon Forge, TN this fall. Did you get any responses for where to hunt for gems, etc. around there? My husband also does metal detecting, but we're not familiar with any allowed places there. I would appreciate any help you can give. Hope you had fun when you were there. Thanks."
Cross the scenic road through the Smokey Mountain National Park over Klingman's Dome to Cherokee North Carolina and you will be in Rockhound Paradise. Check out the North Carolina National Directory for an extensive list of Rudy, Sapphire, Emerald, Garnet mines, Some are fee mines - other are primitive sites. Two areas of intense collecting is around Franklin NC and around Spruce Pines NC. The mines in Galinburg are salted tourist stops. You will want to take the short drive over the Smokey Mountains or you will a real treat. If you are into white water rafting there are great river runs including the river where the Olympic kayaking was held

  • blue sapphire question I think there are mines in North Carolina that may have star sapphires/rubies. I think Africa, Burma, and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) have the largest concentrations.

  • Rock/Gem hunting with kids in WNC I have two boys, 5 and 2 that loves to dig up our backyard and collect rocks and stones. My HB took us to a gem mine in Franklin NC last year and the boys loved it. I was wondering if anyone can tell us a good place to hunt for rock gems around WNC without spending too much money or even free. I'm planning og getting them a metal detector aswell sometime this year. I would really love to get them started soon, weather permitting.

  • Gem Mountain My family and I went to North Carolina on a vacation to Gem Mountan.
We purchased several buckets to sift through and found a wide variety of Gem Stones. Rubies, garnets, aquamarines, emeraldsand alot more. We had a Great Time!! I left some of my stones there to be faceted and they sent them back to me. When I opened the package , I could'nt believe my eyes!!!! I had a 28.52 ct smoky quartz,38.66ct crystal quartz amoung many others. To facet the gemstones I paid $45.00 per stone and it was worth it!

only be open for groups.. this leaves us out.. However she is willing
to work with us to obtain some minerals and gems.. I'm emailing to
ask if your going to be open this summer..

  • Bearfoot Gold In central NC I agree with dredginchick, having been to Bearfoot Gold and I am now a yearly member of Bearfoot Gold by purchasing one of the "package" deals, which if you visit Bearfoot Gold will more than 2 or 3 times a year will save you some money over paying every time you visit.

The host are some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet, and make you a part of the family when you visit, but they are not there a "hold your hand" , but go all out to help "newbies" to learn how to prospect an get the gold.

This property is all about real "prospecting", where you can go and search for where the gold is and then start digging or dredging to get the gold, the property is at your disposal you can prospect the most of the property with only a small portion "off limits" due to the safety of the guests, this "off limits" area is only the old mine shaft which someone could get seriously hurt if left to explore by themselves, but the host will let you check out the mineshaft with a Bearfoot Gold escort.

The gold found at Bearfoot Gold ranges from nice small gold nuggets and gold quartz specimens, to a abundance of fine gold, some visitors have found up to 1/3 of an ounce of gold on their visits!!

I will be a visitor to Bearfoot Gold for a long time into the future!!

Be sure to bring all the supplies that you will need to prospect and for primitive camping, the town of Robbins is 5 minutes away for anything that you will need as far as food and such.

Don't miss a chance to visit this unique property when you are near this part of North Carolina!!!
