Grizzly Creek Kyanite
Kyanite is one of the most beautiful of the metamorphic minerals, Dan. At least, I think so.

Kyanite, Palmer Canyon, Laramie Range, Wyoming
Kyanite occurs in metapelite (aluminum-rich schist) subjected to deep burial (moderate pressures & temperatures) over a long time. It has a unique property of two different hardnesses (H=5 & 7). The blue is kyanite; pink is corundum.

Pink Sapphire & Kyanite
Low quality pink sapphire with sky-blue kyanite, Palmer Canyon, Wyoming. The kyanite fascinated me because there was so much beautiful material so I had some cut into cabochons to see how well if the material could produce gems.

Fresh Broken Surface of Iolite
Iolite at Grizzly Creek, WY, is hidden under thin layer of rusty rock. When broken, gem material is clearly visible. The deposit was discovered by Dan Hausel in 2004 & is largest in the world(http://geologicalconsulting.pbwiki.com/Iolite).

Dan (Diamondprospector) At Grizzly Creek Discovery
This photo ended up on cover of ICMJ Prospecting & Mining Journal. I am standing on kyanite-ruby schist filled with many gem-kyanites. In this area are the largest iolite gems every found - some withing >100,000 carats

Kyanite & pink sapphire, Palmer Canyon, WY
At the Palmer Canyon iolite discovery, I also found ruby, sapphire and gem-quality kyanite. The kyanite was especially beautiful with these sky-blue pieces. There are probably more than a million carats of the kyanite here.

Lost TREASURE found!!!!
Talk about lost treasure - how about finding the two largest colored gemstone deposits on earth. A new book describes the Grizzly Creek iolite - ruby -sapphire -kyanite deposit with gemstones that weight as much as a million carats in the rock outcrop, and the Sherman Mountain iolite deposit with >1 trillion carats! and the Cedar Rim opal deposit with giant opals up to 100,000 carats near US287!
Just came across a new book on Booksurge (and Amazon) which describes some fabulous gem localities including opals >100,000 carats, iolite >1 million carats and more. I followed up on a couple of localities and I have a few thousand peridots, garnets and emeralds. HIGHLY recommended - Gems, Minerals & Rocks – A Guide for Rock Hounds, Prospectors & Collectors
(http://wygemstones.blogspot.com)
The book even describes ways to use the internet to find diamond deposits.
