SE Iowa good spot for hunting geodes. Geode is Iowa state rock. Some very nice specimens can be found.

Thanks for the info. I should have said I live in west central Iowa. I wish I did live closer to the SE area of the state.

We will be traveling from Utah to Illinois then back again. We want to find the best ways to drive to get in as much rockhounding as possible. Of course we may not be able to do much, we are both disabled. Could you tell us all where the geode beds are located, by what town or point of intrest ? Do you find this valuable? |

Keokuk area. Try doing a search for Keokuk geodes. Can't remember where I hunted right off the top of my head. I do know that that wasn't handicapped accessible. I do know I was in Hamilton, IL. Just over the border, I heard he opened up a new bed. I havn't been there so I can't comment on that. The digging was pretty easy in a soft shale clay. Hope that helps, Jim
