Hi everone,
I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for information about low-budget treasure hunting opportunities in upstate NY? I am interested in most everything treasure-related- rocks/minerals, fossils, coins, relics, artifacts, etc. I am planning to try for Herkimer diamonds at some point this coming year, but would welcome any other suggestions for other types of hunts in the upstate NY area. I have an old metal detector that I still occasionally use, but would also be interested in other types of hunts and sites that can be recommended (arrowheads, fossils, bottles, pottery, rocks/minerals, etc). Thanks!

Try the area around Crown Point NY. A friend of mine found some arrowheads there some time ago by the river...I'm try to find a place to detect that is off the beaten path so-to-speak. Any suggestions?

Thx

Hello this is Bob in Ma. I collect Herks in Fonda NY. and its a blast. Full out Herkimer hunting is hard work but very can be a very rewarding experience. Being the first person to open up rock formations up to a half BILLION years old and see what is hiding inside is an experience everyone should share at least once. The first time I went to a comercial Herkimer Diamond site. This is actually not a bad way to start out as some places are sort of a one stop shopping type of place. They rent or lend the proper tools give some instruction and most important show you what you are looking for. If you have access to a private collecting location and some guidance and help the finds will increase if you put in the work. I highly recomend trying your hand at "Herk" hunting. The crystals are beautiful and each one is a unique work of art . Any questions ask. Bob
