I saw the show lastnight and was wondering if a blue star saphire is the same as the ones kristen was digging?the ones I saw on the show looked to be black or red do they have blue in the same mine. I think it was Idaho?does any body know of a link for more info to this mine? Do you find this valuable?

Hey Joe66, There are blue sapphires however, last nights show was on star garnets in ID. Unless I missed something. A garnet and a sapphire are two different gems, though there are star sapphires as well. .Hope this helps. Do you find this valuable?

I think there are mines in North Carolina that may have star sapphires/rubies. I think Africa, Burma, and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) have the largest concentrations.

I do not care to go to africa, burma or sri lanka.but norh carolina could be in the future.I was wanting to order a bucket from gem mountain NC and give it to the kids and tell them the easter bunny left them a bucket of dirt in stead of the regular easter basket.my wife totally nixed that idea.nobody ever said that they have star sapphires or not.would a sapphire and garnets be about the same in value? Your wife nixed it!! What a bummer. Sure sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe I ought to try it and see what mine says. Though she keeps telling me I have to do something all of the gems I have now. I have always liked the buckets from gem mtn. Lots of fun.

As for values, I really don't have much of a handle on it. I would think that a good star sapphire would be a little more valuable than a star garnet. That would be my best guess. They are both beautiful for sure.
