For gems you can go on line and find several places. For other stones try the beach's and streams around parks and national forest campgrounds. Lots of agates, jasper, obsidian.quartze, and even petrified wood. As well as other collectable stones. The book "gem trails of oregon" is a good source of information and locations. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

The Spectrum mine or the dust devil mine are to fee dig places. There is also BLM land that you can gather on for free. Contact washingtoncougar at his profile and he can tell you where it is.

This list is long as your arm. Oregon is where Rockhounds when they die. I am just beginning to post to the Oregon National Directory. I will get a list of sites for you.

I have added four good sites to the Oregon National Directory and I will be adding more. The Owyhee Mountains have a number of sites in the general area including the Idaho side. A good resource is "Gem Trails of Oregon" by James Mitchell. It can be ordered on Amazon.com $11.66 new or $8.45 used.
