Republic's Stonerose fossil site
Apr 28 2008, 10:39 AM EDT
Have just returned late last night from our fossil fieldtrip and expedition up North in Republic,Washington. I am pleased to report a 4-star outing as the weather, accomadations, scenic surroundings and friendly locals contributed to this rather exceptional 2 day excursion. One reacurring event which left an imprint on me was the fact that in the community I live in it is not uncommon to see cats and dogs roaming the streets. In Republic it is not uncommon to see deer, bucks and does crossing the streets or grazing in your yard or just plain making their precence known. What can I say. Republic is truely a Blast from the Past.

Hmmm, I will have to check the calender and the pennies. Probably will be crowed to no end. But heck it only costs like 5$ on a regular day doesn't it?

"Hmmm, I will have to check the calender and the pennies. Probably will be crowed to no end. But heck it only costs like 5$ on a regular day doesn't it?"Yes very inexpensive. Biggest cost I guess is transportation cost.I am estimating my fuel consumption cost @$75,F&B were minimal as we brought our own although I purchased a pint of BV for medicinal purposes.Lodging I opted to stay at the prospector Inn (thumbs up there)2 nights@&57+tax. One could certainly shave that cost by camping or RV'ing. Do you find this valuable? |

"Pic's are posted in Photo Gallery > Albums > Stonerose Fossil sitegreat pictures and nice fossils. That Sassafras Hesperia is very nice! I can see where someone can get excited with the fossils there. There are excellent in quality, good definition and form. Did you find anything the museum really wanted? Nice stuff though. Just a hammer and the rocks huh? I could probably do that. lol 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Yep just a chizel and hammer and alot of excitement. As one never knows what one will uncover splitting that shale. You might have notice the splitting tables that were present in some pic's. Thats where Jason prefered I on the other hand took up a position on the rocks. Do you find this valuable? |

"Hey Andy, how do they loosen up the new material? Just curious."Bulldozer and Backhoe I Think to expose new ground.I am told that the city just installed a 2nd water storage tank and that one can search there as well for fossils being that it is city owned (public property) Same formation of strata revealed when that built the tank. We did not drive up there however. Do you find this valuable? |
