"I received my treasure box from Andy today. I am very happy with the content. He sent me a piece of pet wood and I check it under a blacklight. I do this with every piece of rock I bring home to see if it is fluorescent. To my suprise it fluoresced a nice orange/red. I posted a picture of it in my album or you can view my profile and I put a link to my album. He also sent me a nice piece of carnelian agate and a few other pieces of local material. I will be happy to swap with you again Andy.
Thanks for the great swap
Tom (AZrhound)"
Hey Tom i saw that pic. That was cool! Now I am wondering if that is opalized pieces that are glowing. Since opal is one of them glowing thingys under the black light. We to have check some of the wood we got at saddle mtn with Andy and have seen the same glow and figured it may be some pockets of opalization. Neat stuff! Also your pics are great. I really like that glowing under the black lights. Paul

Hi Paul
If you are interest in swapping I still have specimens 1, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Check them out in my album and let me know. I am also heading out Sunday morning to hunt for more. Maybe since you facet I could send you a handfull and you could facet one and send it back to me and you can keep the rest. I know you told me that it wouldn't be as nice because its not clear, but that would be O.K. Maybe you could make one like a pendent. Maybe I should find out if your interested first.
Tom (AZrhound)

If anyone else is interested just let me know.

HI Tom, I don't have a lot os stuff around here excpt for thing you probably already got from other trade. Pet wood, heck I don't even them "A" thingys. I can facet something, that would be fun. I need to get Jeff up to Red Top, a fairly local mountian that has "A" nodules and geode types of things. Yeah we may be able to work something out. Paul

Wow Ansy, i haven't gotten an A in anything for a long time. lol Congrats on the tumbler. That is a good investment. Lortone makes excellant equipment and I am sure those "A"'s will tumble out great. Does it come with some grit? Now we gots to see them pics after they are tumbled right?!?!? hehe The only thing I have now going is some pet wood from the Saddle. Just need to get Jeff on the saw to keep cutting up some pieces into tumblers. Heck my days are filled with wood turning trying to get things rough cut before it gets to hot. Well it aint gonna happen since it warms up big time today. Have fun collecting man! Keep on Rockin'. Paul

Andy,

The one that looks like snakeskin is probably the Favosite. They are like the little cousin of Petoskey. Both stone will polish well. Actually, they were more common on the beach than the Pets this time.

Nice analogy of the stone - terrified of snakes myself. I'll think about snakeskin everytime I find one now!

Greetings Pam,
The Pet stones were a big hit with my youngest grandson (6) and of course I am no longer in possesion of them after he saw them.It is so neat to share with him the wonders of nature from different parts of this nation and also contribnutes to our knowlege as I take him online and we learn of these treasures origin and history. Thank you for taking the time to share and care.
Wishing you a safe and sane 4th of July >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Happy Trails

Andy,
My box arrived today! Thanks so much. It is cool to see what I read about all time on these threads :) The pet wood is particularly interesting, unlike all my other wood. Washington's is more colorful; however, I don't know the origin of what I already owned. Did you polish the agates?

Noah, my grandson thinks the box was for him :) (everything is his) Are you going to polish the petoskey's? There are ways to hand polish them - my parents use to buy "kits" that had sandpaper, etc and we would sit around the campfire and polish them.
Thanks,
Pam

Hi Pam;
Glad the package arrived properly. Petoskey's will remain natural I think for now. Our wood out here is certainly colorful with a wide variety of species found throughout the state. I don't believe I polished those I sent. They were just cleaned up.
