"does anyone know if there are any diamonds in MN? or just agates..."Yes, there are diamonds in MN. The same glaciers that bull dozed the agate also brought diamonds from Canada. You can find diamonds in the same gravel pits but they a few and far between. There is a Canadian company exploring MN for diamond pipes. Bill 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Thank you so much for the info. I have a rock with pyramid shaped crystals in it and was just wondering. Pam"Diamonds are easy to recognize. The diamond is pure carbon and they will burn if you get them hot enough. The diamond is the hardest natural mineral -10 on a scale of 1 to 10. Therefore, they will scratch any other mineral. Gem cutters use diamonds in saws and polishing wheels to cut other gems. Diamonds are usually smooth and feel slick. They do not collect dirt easily, so if your crystals are sharp and you found them rather dirty, they are not likely to be diamonds. Take one of the crystals and see if a knife blade will scratch it. If it does -it is not a diamond. Diamonds do not appear in clusters of crystal but are usually found alone. If I had to venture a guess, your crystals could be calcite. Are they a large cluster of crystals, with a number of points? Do you find this valuable? |
