"One of my biggest concerns is that the site is getting narrower and narrower. New people will come visit a time or two and leave. Handy anyone is adding to the content. I love T-Eggs but 135 pictures of T-Eggs should tell the story. I contacted Gem & Mineral and they are going to talk the site up in their next issue. I just hope we will make it a broader site and get more people involved. People like you Tom and you Andt.Hi Bill I too would love to see someother areas of theis great country get involved. I have checked and very few from the east coast have started any involvement. It seems like they post a time or two then drop off. I check frequently as I would like to earn any thing I can about rock hounding all over. I hav family on the east coast and if I get the chance to go back there I would love to know places to hunt. Your comments are correct Bill however Patty has posted no profile and interacts within the wiki only through private posts after a issue has arizen, basicly. Kwin does now have a profile and now and again we'll hear from him on the wiki with a promo punch 4 an upcoming show. I understand his affiliation with the show and in some circles that might be considered a conflict of interest. Both react slowly after the fact. I, like you Bill have been told changes are being made or in progress to improve this site, yet I see very little evidence in that outside a few user members. There are truely hundreds of internet sites out there that are competing for participants/consumers/players etc.....This C&T site would make an excellent platform to broaden and envelope the best of the present so that it could truely be of benifit in the future by evolveing into a national directory of factual information, benificial links and exciting true stories from the field. Most of the issue's I have read here on the site are also issue's raised in the Travel Channel's wiki as well with similar results. Case N Point: The abusive member who appeared not to long ago...........................and ????????????????? Anyway my comments are not meant to be critical but mearly constructive >>>>>>> as I said before It ain't about nothing :) Happy Trails >>>> Andy Do you find this valuable? |

You and Tom are two of the people on this site "there are others" who put a lot of time and energy into making this a good site. You guys were the first to invite me to be a part of the community. I agree totally with your statement: This C&T site would make an excellent platform to broaden and envelope the best of the present so that it could truely be of benifit in the future by evolveing into a national directory of factual information, benificial links and exciting true stories from the field. Wow this is a hot thread. I don't know how much the 6 moderators and above actually look at the site. Like this thread for instance, unless it is sent to them they may never see it. Most of the chances that they have made are administrative to the website and not in threads It would be nice to see them participate a bit more. I mean they do travel a bunch making the show and may not have the time or make the time for the site.As to why people come and go on this wiki is hard to understand. Bill has provided information on just about every state the nation on places to go and things to do. I wish there were other groups as active and the northern western and western states are here. I am sure there are many people out there in close proximity that share the same interests like we do. Maybe because we are so active it intimidates them and they don't participate. Or they don't have others in the area participate and they never interact and meet. There should be groups like the one we have all across the country. We should be seeing reports and pics from all over the nation. It is too bad there is more participation from other areas of our nation. Thank goodness there are some that pipe in and have fun with the group. I think there are more people lurking in the dark keeping up with the wiki, but don't say much unless there is something that arises from their region. I best stop rambling. lol It would be nice to see some improvements with the wiki that have been suggested and maybe a little more personal participation from the moderators and up people. I have emailed all 6 before and haven't gotten a reply email from them. However, it was an email that really didn't need to be replied too. Anyway we are fortunate to have this site with the people we have here where we can make new friends, lots of laughs and great information. It can't be beat. Thanks you all! Hey Bill Good Luck. Also If It weren't for A few people such as Paul, Andy, Treebaby, Dave and Livy and a few others I wouldn't have gotten so involved. These people welcomed me and shared and laughed and just made me feel welcome and a part of this site. I have tried to encourage the new people who drop in from time to time. Like our friend from Arizona who sent me a glowing piece from his area and Tim who is no moving out here from back east. These people have a great opportunity to enhance this site with their local knowledge. Some of them are new true. Yet even a new person has knowledge to share and experiences to post. also their questions keep us on our toes. Like cutting questions or polishing questions. They get people sharing and bouncing suggestions and the next thing you know you have an old floor buffer for a lap and are working pieces two feet long instead of two inch's. Also finishing material for different stones, such as the ruby trials I have seen posted. I personally have exchanged pieces with people in three different states since coming to this site. Which is totally cool. So I hope to see more people from where ever in this country joining and sharing so we all can be enriched. Tom Do you find this valuable? |

I would like to see Paul and Andy as moderators. Paul is involved in answering also everyones questions and greets almost every newby. A moderator should be a person who actually monitors the site. I used Mindat.com to exchange information . They have an online chat with a lot of kids involved and the web manager watched those kids like a mother hen. If some adult tried to start to mess with the kids -he was out of there. I like our web site better than mindat.com for a number of reasons. The locations at mindat are out of date, vague, and I have tried to find their site locations only to be put on a wild goose chase. As I said the chat room is mostly kids (which is great) but I can't talk about who is dating who. Back to the subject at hand if Andy and Paul would agree- I will approach Cash and Treasures. Like Paul said with all they have going they might like to let the involved people take charge. what do you think Paul & Andy. Bill Do you find this valuable? |

Hi everybody, I have a suggestion. I wish everybody would put a title to their picture. You wouldn't have to put a description just a title so I and other people would know what we are looking at. I might me the only one.lol I guess I just need a title for dummies, like the books.lolThanks,Brenda Do you find this valuable? |

There are 2 pictures of someone holding a small honey clear stone/gem. I have no idea what it is, but sure would like to know. I think most everyone does put some info on them pics, but then again, us old worn out dudes like Tom and me with that oldtimers stuff sometimes forget to. It isn't just you. Hmmm Rocks for Dummies. So If they had been titled then Identifying them would have been easy,,lol. But there are others that i do wish had titles. As I said the chat room is mostly kids (which is great) but I can't talk about who is dating who.Well I thank you for your confidence in me, however, I don't know if they would be receptive to the idea. I think they are there in the background. For instance, the troublemaker in here some time ago doesn't seem to be around anymore. Maybe that was their choice for not returning, but with all the email the moderators received from us, I think something happened to stop the problem on a higher level. We do a good job policing ourselves I think. And I do believe the C and T folks are there but due to schedules, they just may be too busy to show themselves much. Though it would be nice to see them participate at least a little. I think there are a lot of people here that would make good moderators, Tom, Andy, Bill, heck about anyone who participates in the site. I think if we continue as we are things will be just fine. I guess the only thing we as a group probably need to do is try to get more people interested in the site and participate more. I know there are other groups out there across our great nation that would do the same thing our WA/OR local group has. Getting together, digging, fellowship, a little ribbing and just plain having a good time out doing what we all love to do. They just haven’t met yet. There are so many people that do now and have participated in this site that I would love to meet and go dig with - East, North, South and West. Discovering treasures by yourself is fun, but with a group it is a blast! Man look at the information available now. Bill has nearly single handedly giving hunt locations and information for rock hunters in nearly every state of the nation. The pictures of his specimens and scenery are second to none. The information we in our little neighborhood shared has developed great friends and memories and I am sure there will be more to come. We are lucky to have a site like this bringing people with like interests together. Opps running out of room. lol Paul (Man I am wordy) Do you find this valuable? |

Hey, I could use a Rockhounding for Dummies! I agree with titles for pics, making them easier to view. Often, I just view the thumbnails; unless it is something really unusual because it takes too long to go through each one. I have to say, though, I belonged to Mindat first but find this site more "friendly". Not having a geology background, I felt somewhat intimated at Mindat, everyone seemed to be so much more knowledegable than I. I have learned a great deal from contributors at this website. This is my first attempt at interacting at a website, so I might not have answered "friend requests" or done other thingsexactly right. But I'm trying to learn. I do appreciate posts that are not "agate", although I usually read the agate announcements to see what you are up to. I would like to see upcoming rock hunts (if somewhat close to me) that are open to members. I did find a guide for finding geodes at Mindat. After a person shows you what to look for, it's easy to find for yourself. I am heading north on Monday to go rock pickin'. I will add to the national directory upon returning. "Hey, I could use a Rockhounding for Dummies!Well this has been a lively discussion. We all agree that we want to expand as Paul said North. East, South & East. As I mentioned "Rock & Gem" is going to include information about our site in the editorial section. Billie and I was asked to write articles for "Rock and Gem". Maybe a good article would be about the "Sage Brush Miners" and geode heaven. A Rockhounding for Dummies is a great idea. .
