"Hey, I could use a Rockhounding for Dummies!Hi havermap, well heck speak up please. lol Hey take you time and read and comment and share your experiences. It is fun to see what others are doing and finding. I have to admit, one has to spend some time on this site to figure out everything one can do here. I know i still find new things all the time. "I do appreciate posts that are not "agate", although I usually read the agate announcements to see what you are up to." you had me in tears with this comment. I admit these agate addicts do enjoy the lively discussions and bragging rights about agates. I think I am glad we don't have any around here as I can think about few other things (like wishing there were agates around here). hehe Have a great rock hunt on Monday. What will you be hunting for? Oh please don't be agates. lol :-o Have fun and good hunting! Paul 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

You know, with wealth of experience and information found on this site, I think a pretty good book could be produced. Then I think the next in the series would have to be something like "Rocking(chair)hounds for Those With Oldtimers" You know for guys like Tom and me. Which could be a rather short book saying, "go re-read 'Rockhounding for Dummies' DUMMY!" Do you find this valuable? |

44. Agate are Amber?
Jun 13 2008, 1:27 PM EDT
I did put a picture of a Agate in my Photo Album. I've been told it was Amber and then somebody else said it was a Agate. I also has a picture of it w/light so you can see the color. Can anybody tell me what it looks like to them? I'm trying to get my pictures look better, but they always turn out looking big and blurry. Sorry about that,if you have any tips without buying a better camera let me know.By the way I got so tickled over the Agates I had tears rolling.LOLBrenda Do you find this valuable? |

Alright You AGATE "Challenged" PeopleDon't let your jealousy over our abundant hunting grounds get the best of you..lol. I know we post a lot of agate pics and have several very friendly discussions on them but there are so very any types and locations across this great nation it is hard not to become addicted to them. I also hunt for many other types of treasures in my area. Such as Jasper and quartz crystals and fossils and geodes, and more. I realize that another started the agate bashing but Paul took full advantage to get his licks in because he has NO agates where he lives. Sticks and stones can break me bones but mean agate words can't hurt me ,ha, ha, ha,,,lol Tom Do you find this valuable? |

The Agate pieces you have in that bowl look great too. If you could find some larger pieces of those type they make great cabs and jewelery. Bill could probably tell you what type they are since he has hunted your area before. Very nice stones go get some more and get ADDICTED to AGATES like Andy is,,,lol. Tom Do you find this valuable? |

The way to tell the difference between amber and agate is easy. Amber is very light and agate is heavy. also you can use a knife and scratch the surface of the stones. Agate will not scratch with a knife but amber will. Amber is pertrified pitch and looks sort of lie pitch too. But it is very light and soft. Hope this helps. Paul Do you find this valuable? |

It really helped. I picked up a large tripod yesterday for five dollars at a back yard sale also. Now I can do more . If you use a tripos and when holding stones in your hand find someting to stabilize your hand with the pics come out clearer. Check out the pics of the pocket eggs I posted. I used the small tripod and braced my hand against the platform I had the tripod on and they came out pretty good. Tom Do you find this valuable? |

I read the obituary this morning, I was not in it so I knew it was going to be a good day. The Doc said they wil be mining for a kidney stone. They are going to BLAST it. I was hoping they would leave it whole so I could add it to my collection. It's not an agate. Will be posting PICS.
