"Good Luck on the log. Sounds like a beauty. The tangerine agate is a good one too. Keep up the hunt still a couple of weeks yet.Any recommendations on the Bickleton area for carnelians? The LGMC outing next Saturday is heading to a local landowners property to search. No digging just surface hunting. Do you find this valuable? |

Glad to hear you got your saw and returned safely home. What can't you cut with the new saw?Can you cut a petrified log with it? Had a fairly good day at that rock quarry but then again no one was there to stop me. Going to go back today and ask for formal permission to hunt the entire quarry, I'll even wear a hard hat.

What can't I cut with the new saw? Hmmm, my finger!! lol I picked up the rock saw first so it is in front of the trailer. (16') Then I went to 2 different places and picked up turning wood. There is a lot of rounds and chunks to off load to even get to the rock saw. Then I have to clean up and re-assemble the saw. I don't know if the rock saw would cut the soft wood, but for the pet wood, yeah I think so! Let's put it this way - it sure as heck better!!! lol Yeah get permission and get into the quarry. You are going to be the agate miser of all times. Them wet westerners won't have a chance.

Happy to hear you liked the wood.Hopefully you can make some nice things from it. This agate contest pertains to all NEW finds between 5/1/08-6/7/08.Will let registered users of this wiki cast a vote for their favorite agate. In as much as I am equipmentless my train of thought centered around the natural/rough agate. Any thoughts or comments? If you decide to make any pretties out of that saddle Mtn wood, send me a pic. I would love to see what your creative juices manufacture.......:) Andy Do you find this valuable? |

Hey Gangyes the contest is for rough natural agatges. size means weight and dimensions,( 1lb.4oz at 6" by 3"by 7") which were the dimensions of the "Queen Elizabeth" before she recieved her first stage cut. color means the best clarity and patterning ( such as the banded agate that Andy found and posted a few days ago). Can be a yellow, a carnelian, a banded, a plume , or ??? Uniqueness is about natural out of the ground shaping and color and included material like drusy quartz in the agate cavity, or large crystals inside of the agate shell. Or you find one that looks like the profile of Englbert Humperdink, LOL, Does that help explain the contest a little better. The people who read these wiki's are the one who vote and decide. LOLTrue according to accepted belief of the early settlers any thing west of the mississippi was considered western frontier, AKA weserner's. How ever we have come along way since ox drawn wagons and maps of a flat world. Those who have not had their brains dehydrated by excessive sun and arid wind, and their vision impaired by constant desert glare know that is not true. While my SIGN does say TRUE WESTERNER unfortunately for you all your's says deluded EASTERN desert dweller to be comforted and kept calm so as not to over stmulate themselves into irrational outburst's of equality or acceptability. That is why God put such beautiful stones and petrified wood in the deserts and foot hills. It gives the simple minded pretty things to look at and keeps them happy and calm.HE, HE,HE Have a Nice Day :-) Tom Do you find this valuable? |

"Yeee Ha.........even made myself laugh at all the unneccessary attention. The room was a beehive of committee reports, drawings, field trip info etc.........so i did not get a chance to mention the active C&T wiki. They are planning on a Carnelian agate trip to Bickleton area of state. Saw a # of them last night polished. They weren't very translucent though.A 3 inch diameter agate can be cut with a six inch saw with one pass. A larger stone could be turned over and sliced but it would not match cutting faces. Bill Do you find this valuable? |

35. Agate Photo Contest
May 13 2008, 11:51 PM EDT
Hey I have made up a photo album for the agate contest. Hope you all don't mind. I just thought it would be nice to have all of the entries in one spot instead in each ones photo albums or just in the gallery. Since every picture downloaded to the site seems to be put in the gallery, some entries may end up pages down and would be a pain to look for. Here is the link. Just add your entry to the album. http://cash-and-treasures-wiki.travelchannel.com/album/12617/Agate%20Photo%20Contest%20Entries

"Andy, you have a way with words! Well said! "My Ex wives told me that as well.......................:) Missed my calling, should have been a attorney, except I'm 2 honest 4 that profession. Update on the Pet wood log......tried to reach the plant/pit mgr for permission 2 hunt anf to ask about the log but he has been out of town. He'll return tomorrow. Ironically I was sharing this story of my log encounter with another friend who really surprised me when he told me that the ex-husband of his domestic partner worked there and had been telling their son whose 12 that he had a pet wood log stored at work which happens to be at this sand and gravell pit. Seem's he is a mechanic there...........how weird is that. More to follow. Do you find this valuable? |
