Yup worked good. Interesting reading. Not much about the closure though. The mercury, asbestos and cyanide discussions were interesting. I guess the owner will have to get a helicopter to fly clients into the mine. I am very surprised that they can keep the landowner off the property - not allowing access. Interesting about the cyanide, it must have been a very recent "fly by night" mining co. that left the cyanide. As I recall it breaks down very quickly in the sun. When I was working at the mine we didn't use cyanide in the recovery process but did a lot of lab work with it. The cyanide was the safe stuff. It was the clorine that was used to neutralize it that was dangerous. All these people who take their kids to the city pool that uses clorine in the pools or lives near a business or city that use the gas everyday takes more of a risk than with the cyanide. Dang clorine gas is bad stuff! I could go on about the asbestos. I think that is why the area was closed. There isn't enough asbestos in any concentrations there high enough to hurt anyone. It was bad where it was used in concentrated forms - like pipe insulation in ships, schools, homes, business etc. And it took many years of exposure to be harmed. I think it is just an excuse to close public lands. Wow what got me started. To me it is a true loss of our resources when the government closes public lands for public use and enjoyment. I mean it is sort of like we all own it, isn't it?? Guess we ain't smart enough to take care of ourselves. All in all, it is a bummer that the area has been closed and for no reason what so ever. Bravo Braothe truth is that there are those who want to protect eveything for everyone and they have figured out that if they do not allow anyone to use it then it will be there for everyone who can not use it,,lol Tom Do you find this valuable? |

I have been on about 100 mining and mineral websites in the last week, along with numerous jewelry making sites. I am so sorry to have given you bad info, but here is the reason why. Being new to the game, I saw the funny prospector on the home pages of both websites and got them confused! Silly I know, but here is the info that you really need: http://www.capistranomining.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=13 I hope that you find it useful...! DD PS: I am still waiting for that very slow! UPS guy!!!! Do you find this valuable? |

Livy's family has had this happen to them as well. Her grandfather had a mine over in Idaho (I'm not sure where) with a homestead deed and everything and when he passed away her step dad and one of her aunts had to go over there and clean the site up so the family would not be fined for some B.S. reason. Then the forest service went in after wards and tore up the road leading to the mine saying it was in the interest of the salmon and steelhead spawning grounds (you had to cross a stream to get to the mine). The gov't wouldn't even let them take their own vehicles over or bring out any of the equipment that was at the mine, so there it still sits.I think most states use the envirormental crud just shut areas down so if need be they can use it as a source of income later on, like in a state emergency when their budget is gone and they have no other source of money. RockPuppy just bought a bag of Benitoite today. Who knows maybe there will be some good material in it and our kids or grandkids (in the very distant future) can sell it for a chunk of money. I am opinionated, but I tell this enviro-stuff (you can put in another word there if you like) really gets me mad. It reminds me of a ranch years ago in AZ or somewhere down there that had a couple of natural springs which they watered their cattle with for a 100 years. Well somehow someone discovered a little fish and this was the only place in the world it existed. Anyway "they" came in and completely shut the area down. Essentially the ranchers lost their way of life and were squeezed out of the area. Cattle had been drinking, walking, pooping and what ever else they do in the water for many years and the little fish we just happy as can be. If we can co-exist nature why not let people use their land instead of plain shutting it down. ARGH!! nuff said... Heck I gotta order soem dirt from somwhere!!!! lol Do you find this valuable? |

I agree Paul but RockPuppy beat me to it, ordering some dirt that is. lol. Went to the site and read what it had to say about the closer and apperently they have shut the area down to do a 2 year study on the asbestous (sp?) exposure from the mines it came from. Anyone and everyone that has something to do with that area had better raise a ditch fit for those two years, because in my opinion if they don't con't for the two years the gov't will think everyone has gotten use to it being closed and they will keep it that way. Crude if I was the mine owner I would tell them they could test me every six months as long as I still had access to my mine to at least sell it for RMing. Dave Do you find this valuable? |

Yeah I think I will look at the pennies and see what I can do. Yeah will it ever open again, probably not. Isn't it the state gem for CA and the only mine it is found at?. One would think they try to keep some of their notority and state treasures available. Let me know what you find. If I can get some dirt I will do the same. Careful - don't breathe the dust! I like DD RMM thingy! Very well put. lol Paul
