May 19 2008, 11:13 AM EDT Hi ,I'm a northern Va. native , artifacts are my main interest , but also find gems when hunting ,creek beds and rivers are a great place to search , many differnt gems can be found ,garnets most often and also green emerald , I like to snorkel for the gems as the color stands out in the water , as for places in northern va , there are many , the shenandoah river has many shallow water shoals to hunt , Warren co Va. outside washington about 65 miles , there are many canoe outfitters , great way to get to the spots , good luck !!
