Dry N Washington
May 24 2008, 10:20 PM EDT Was a beautiful day uptop Sadlle Mtn today as we arrived around 11:30 am.Slight breze, not to hot just right but still managed to work up a sweat trying to keep up with the two youngNs (8& 16).There mother has just recently joined the local club and is quite enthusiastic when it comes to hunting for rocks,Anyrocks.Very light pressure as I only saw two others digging.Sure is pretty up there. We called it quits at 2pm with 3 buckets of nice, fist size tumbling material.Took them back to that hole where Jeff ,Paul and I dug a month ago.We enlarged that hole somewhat and took out 1/2 dozen nice size pieces. May 25 2008, 12:21 AM EDT LoL Very Nice Andy Glad yu had a good time. I tried tocall you about 8:30 this morning but apparently you had already left. I had a slight vehicle malfunction that put me out of the trip. Found the trouble and now just have to put it all back together again. a Piece of crud in the feed to the injectors. Thoght it was the fuel pump first but lucked out and no parts cost this time just dirty hands and wasted day. Really wish I could have met you all down there. Especially since I could have showed you the mine and where the reds were. Take Care Tom Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Dry N Washington
May 25 2008, 9:17 AM EDT That would have been nice. I was kinda hoping, I am really curious about that red locality up threre.Did try a new area up top off the S rd which produced a fair amount square rectangle pieces of wood which seemed to be layered like slate/mica but nothing large there. This area supposedly produces a white creamy colored pet wood. Mother nature has decided that today is not going to be a Bass fishing day as my fishing partner and I have been rained out so to speak. Just may have to return tomorrow to Saddle Mtn to meet up with ya Tom so you can show me that Red area.Maybe Paul is feeling better and might shoot on over from Wenatchee with Jeff for a day.Got a feeling were going to have a late summer here in the high basin. RE: Dry N Washington
May 25 2008, 1:37 PM EDT I see we finally got a real thread going! I like the dry part. lol Andy, the red area is lower in the valley. Another place to park instead of where you and I did is to continue on the main road about another 1/4 mile or so and you will find a pretty major road taking off to the right. Go down a couple 100 yards, you will see the parking area. If you start walking back towards our hole we dug, the reds are in the valley to your left and the other stuff is under your feet or left or right. Don't go to the very bottom of the valley, the digs are on the slope towards the main digs. North side of the valley. You will find most of the reds in the top 6". You will see the dig sites there as well as most everywhere else on the particular hillside. lol Haven't seen the pics yet, will check them out. Glad you got some good stuff! May 26 2008, 9:28 AM EDT "I see we finally got a real thread going! I like the dry part. lolThat sounds like where I saw theset wo men digging at. One was useing a small screen.Sounds like that is a productive area.Weather yesterday turned out farly nice, a few squalls and intermittant gale force winds..........:) We managaed to boat 4 bass,1 walleye and 1 catfish.Neither of us fell into the water but there were certainly moments of hillarity for 2 land lovers who hadn't been in a boat in 3 years. All in all it was FUN in the SUN (partial) A Do you find this valuable? |

Good thing no one fell in that water is cold! You fish the Columbia or the snake? Sound sort of like the Snake to me... Just a guessin'! lol Paul Do you find this valuable? |

May 29 2008, 7:57 PM EDT Sounds like a good haul Andy. We did have people fall in the water me being one LOL. Our weekend went good, we caught about a half dozen bass, some crapie, 2 cats, 4 walleye and to many trout (right around 30) with me catching a nice 18+ incher. Livy of course was finding her green rocks that see like and Kevin was picking up any that he thought was prettyful. I may have found a piece of chocolate colored jasper unknown until I cut a slabe off and give it a good looksies. Dave Do you find this valuable? |

May 29 2008, 10:34 PM EDT We were going to fish the snake river at Winddust but the water was a mess and flowing fast so we shot up to Lyons Ferry and fished the Palouse. My fishing buddy had never been in that neck of the woods. Where were you fishing at Dave? Tucannon for the trout? Andy Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Dry N Washington
May 29 2008, 11:53 PM EDT Actually in the same area. Man in the same area at the same time and didn't even know it. We camped at Ayer's junction, it is RockPuppy's family that try to have a get together every year there for Memorial weekend. The water is still to dirty and cold on the Snake for bass and crapie so we go to Marm's pond, right off the palouse for the trout, best place to fish for em, and man can they put up a fight. We did have a real scare on sunday the people next to us turned out to have gone to school with Livy's youngest sister so we took him and his family to Marm's to do some fishing and when we went to leave his boat would not plane out and the back end was nearly completly submerged. Found out the airaters on the live wells was left on and flooded the boat and they had to get it to shore, used the motor hydrlics to lift it up so we could bale it out until the bilge took over. Even after that it still was trying to bottom up so his daughter and our niece got on to my boat and then he gave it full throttle and that took care of the rest of the water in it. All in all it was a very good weekend. Dave Do you find this valuable? |

Course the kids... hehe were out rockin'. Leaving poor ol' Dave to haul in dinners. Now Dave did you honestly not pick up a rock and bring it home? It will be interesting hear what you found with the jasper looking stone. Oh wait, that was your jasper. I guess I answered my own question. lol All in all sounds like a good time was had by all! May 30 2008, 12:15 AM EDT "Actually in the same area. Man in the same area at the same time and didn't even know it.WOW Jeff and I had the same problem with our boat last summer. We were fishing Chelan for Mack's and were heading in for the day. About half way in the boat went off plane - like geez what is happeneing. I kicked back the throttle and a big wave of water came gushing up by my feet. The blidge pump was running but not keeping up. I thought I had a hole in the hull. Got Jeff into the front of the boat and did get back to shore, we got is on the trailer and drained out. No hole in the hull, but an airater pump pipe broke I guess we were leaking big time and didn't know it. It is sot of freaky to be in a boat that may be going down faster then one can get to shore. lol Glad it was a good weekend. Paul Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Dry N Washington
May 30 2008, 10:13 AM EDT The powerful geologic activity that turned the Pacific Northwest into a natural treasure chest began somewhere between 140 and 65 million years ago. During the Cretaceous Period, the earth's crust separated into great landmasses known as tectonic plates. Eventually the Pacific Plate (under the Pacific Ocean) and the North American Plate (holding the continent) made slow but violent contact along a zone that is near the border of Idaho with Oregon and Washington. The lower part of the Pacific Plate was finally "subducted," or forced beneath the North American Plate, shearing and melting rock forty miles below the surface. Some molten rock erupted through faults and fissures as lava, cooling quickly on the surface into fine-grained basalt. But greater volumes of the fiery magma lay trapped underground, cooling slowly into masses of rock: "batholiths" with areas greater than 40 square miles. Over time, chemical elements precipitated out of the gases and hydrothermal solutions, segregating into mineral compounds and accumulating in cracks and edges-fractured places that became the pockets and veins where many Northwest gems formed. Relentless plate movement continued, kneading the continental crust like bread dough, folding, pressing, and changing portions of existing stone into metamorphic rock with new conditions for varied gemstone growth. The region's diverse underground environments were eventually lifted into mountain ranges, carrying such brilliants as beryl, carnelian, garnet, quartz crystal, sapphire, topaz, and tourmaline with them. "The reason we have an incredible variety of gems is because the Pacific Northwest has an example of almost every kind of geology that exists in the world," says Eric Cheney, a UW professor of earth and space sciences. May 30 2008, 6:49 PM EDT Andy, first off where you one of the boats that got stuck on the mud flats sunday on the Palouse, Livy's step dad, and her sister's boyfriend where in the tanish colored old boat that got stuck as well. Second you are really putting some very ineresting info on this threads. Kind of makes my head hurt the first time I read it but after that it starts to make sense. Dave Do you find this valuable? |

May 30 2008, 9:16 PM EDT Thanks Dave. Learning a thing or two myself out of all of this. Fortunatly we didn't get stuck but boy howdy there is some very shallow areas on that sm river. I kept looking up at the terain, topography and geology and relied on feel for those fish. Sure is much different looking up from the river as opposed to looking down. Hey we could plan a combo trip, kill 2 birds with one agate. Fishing and then rocking. Andy Do you find this valuable? |
