20. RE: Field trips 4 Summer
Jun 2 2008, 6:44 PM EDT
Paul,Those Washington Field trips were posted in the LSGM club's monthly newsletter the Geode which I rec'd in mail on Saturday. 1st Creek trip contact is Steve Townsend(srtrocks@aol.com) they didn't mention what they will be hunting.I just assumed E-blues<Ellensburg rock club> Our local club has targeted June 28th for saddle mtn and diatom pits trip - come as my guest or just come.........................:)I presume all are invited.Never have seen any restrictions for participation in these trips.........That 1st creek trip I would have like to have taken in just to gather some more specific area locations for the E-blues. Isn't the First creek outing this weekend? I too would like to go to first creek to see what all is there. Thanks for the invite to the Mtn. But is all works out, I should be heading to Mt for some sapphires. BTW, I got your agate done this afternoon. only .35 cts Looks pretty cool but it doesn't that the real internal shine that a regular faceted stone would have. Pics really won't show it very well, but I will post some anyway. Paul Do you find this valuable? |

If so I bet it looks even better in person, .35 cts finnished, geezzzz Paul that's a pretty good size isn't it?Hey Andy, yup that was a first. I did facet a nodule off a geode or t-egg or one of the 2 before. lol This was a little clearer. .35 ct is pretty small. There are 5 ct/gram. But it would make a nice small ring or a nice earring. I hate those big huge earrings anyway. That was the best cut I could get out of it. The exterior was pretty rough and uneven. You will learn this summer. lol I just finished Ellen's green tourmaline. I will photo soon. I wish I were set up better got such fine photography the pics would be much better quality. My dang digital doesn't have a manual focus which one needs when photo'ing such small item's. Hey if you look at the album where the faceted agate is scroll down and you will see a faceted citrine, sunstone and pink tourmaline. To give you a bit of a size comparison, the citrine and sunstone are right at 1 ct and the pink tourmaline is 0.40 ct. or 40 points on the point system. There are 100 points in a ct. Amazingly enough, Ellen’s tourmaline is 035 cts as well. lol Hope this helps. Paul Do you find this valuable? |

Hey Andy .35ct is large compared to the last faceted carnelian I saw which was ,,,,,,,,,none. so Be proud and have a stud made and stick that hummer in your ear for all to enjoy. Heck I haven't had an earring in in fifteen years but I would put that one in. Paul cuts so many stones he is getting grumpy and jaded at the excitement of us uneducated simpletons..lol. I for one think it is great and hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed seeing my "first Faceted Carnelian"tom Do you find this valuable? |

It is beautiful for sure, but big, it is not. just tried to give an idea as to the size of something. But to coin the popular phrase - whatever. lol Do you find this valuable? |

Paul I guess you would have to start with a fairly large agate say a 1-2oz clear translucent to get a 6-8 ct faceted stone.Guess it would matter on the # of cuts or angles 2 I suppose. Keep up the great work err I mean fun. >> Andy
