"Hey everyone, this looks to be a very reliable and accurate resource for anyone wanting to dive into the hobby and hunt.I actually have bought the Ore-Rock-On DVD from mr Fisher. Its a pretty good resource from my experiences.. there is quite a few Washington sites listed as well on the dvd, I did find so far that every decent site listed for Washington ive visited thats on the dvd however is also in the gem trails of washington book that just came out a few months back .. still, for oregon its a major resource theres hundreds of sites ... kind of spendy at around $50 but now that ive got it ... Paul,Received your envelope in the mail today with the faceted carnelian. MAN IS IT COOL, just amazing to see the finnished stone. Even at .32cts thats a nice size for a ring in a number of different designs. Wow I want to start learning that art form so bad so I can turn some of the nice rocks I have into beautiful gemstones. Thats a trade one could do, well into their golden years I would think. Andy Do you find this valuable? |

"Paul,Glad you got it. It is beautiful. The colors are amazing, but it just doesn't have that real bright internal shine. There is some and it looks great. I agree there are many possibilities for the stone. Small pendent, nice ring, it would be hard to make match the color, but if one could get another one the same size and color, they would make beautiful earrings. I think you will enjoy the art of faceting. That school is going to be great! I can hardly wait to start seeing your work. I cut my first pavillion yesterday on the new to me machine. Boy it is nice sure makes it easy to make consistant cuts. Enjoy the stone and if you do something with it, you have to post a pic! Paul Do you find this valuable? |

Also, if any of you want info about oregon sites from that dvd or any book ive got just let me know and ill be happy to share.. Do you find this valuable? |

HI Syonix, there are many places a person can send rough to be faceted. I would be happy to do it, but I am a newbie at faceting. If the stone is something you just want to get done but not to perfection, I could do something, but if it a presious gem, I wouldn't want to do it yet. Cost vary per cutter and type of stone. Most cost about $45 to $50 (some could be higher) but if the stone is hard like sapphires, rubies etc, the costs go up. As they take longer to facet and are hard on equip[ment. Jerry Call. Rio Doce Mine, is a well known facetor What kind of stone is it? Paul

Paul"Well it was more of a gernal question i've got lots and lots of pretties that at some point in the next 40 years i want to get cut, if not by myself by someone .. :-) I've got some rough ruby and tons of quartz in varying forms and the recent agate additions ;) I've always been very curious how one learns to cut a stone into a gem, the whole process fascinates me.. It's only now that i'm not working 2 jobs 80 hours a week like i have the last decade or so that i can really sit back and get back into my hobbies :-) Something for me to think about for the future.. thank you for the reply... Argh 2 jobs 80 hrs per week. What a bummerr. Not much time to go out hunting for treasures. As for learning to facet, I am self taught - and am still near the bottom of the bell curve. lol Though I must say I am producing stones that I would mount and be proud of. So there is the slow way to learn or you can do what Andy is going to do and that is to go to school. He is heading back East for a 2 week school, 1 week cabbing and 1 week faceting. I wish I could afford to do that. But there are other schools around. There maybe some one that teaches in Portland or Vancouver. Where I live I would have to travel 160 miles to maybe go to few hour seminar. Well get all that work stuff out of the way and get to enjoying your hobbies. Sounds like you will have a good supply of material to play with when you get there. Keep on rockin'! Paul Do you find this valuable? |

Welcome syonix sorry it has taken me so long to say that but we have been busy. The Ore-Rock-On DVD is 100 x worth its weight in rock forsure.I probable would never sleep if I worked 80 hrs aweek, I just have to much to do around the house and even working the shifts I work now have a hard time getting to it. Now that wouldn't have anything to do with looking for rocks ;o LOL. Hope you can make it to one of the many possible get togethers, the more the merrier. Dave Do you find this valuable? |

Yup, it was Val's fault I got myself into this situation! They have mom's day first so they can constantly remind you for a month that it was the your fault for getting them into the situation! But I wouldn't change it for anything in the world - even a big "A". :-o Paul Do you find this valuable? |

Wow what a wonderful bluebird day for fishing which is exactly what I did together with a friend when we drove up into the Blue Mountains of SE Washington for our Fathers Day Fish Feeding Frenzy outing. You see we were attending a BBQ gathering later in the evening and had commited to providing the fresh fish for dinner. So ooooooooo we had to GET ER DONE! We were on the road by 5:30am and were fishing 90 minutes later. We called it quits after I had landed the last fish on a green roostertail lure and were back on thew road again by 9:30am.We arrived back home at 11:30 and had the dinner fish cleaned by noon. Then I took my fathers day power nap in anticipation of a Fathers day backyard BBQ & trout dinner. Yummy. Trout treasure bonus came when I caught/snagged a stringer with a trout strung on it ALIVE!!! I was quite surprised.....................but it was a keeper. see posted pic. Happy Trails Do you find this valuable? |

"Welcome syonix sorry it has taken me so long to say that but we have been busy. The Ore-Rock-On DVD is 100 x worth its weight in rock forsure.Hey no problem i understand being busy! I have had to take a few paid time off days the last week to work on this site i found .. it's been producing some real nice deep red carnie agates amongst others... I've got 20 lbs or so of translucent agates being tumbled right now and will post pictures when thier all done .. the last trip i did this last saturday netted me another 10 lbs and a real nice deep blood red 8oz'er... what can i say i'm a sucker for the agates right now .. You are correct about mr Fisher's dvd, that stuff is golden.. one of the topo maps in there helped me narrow down this new site i found, i highly recommend it to anyone.. I'm looking forward to making time this summer to go collecting with groups as it gets a little quite on those 12+ hour hunts bent over talking to the trees ;) Do you find this valuable? |
