June th 2008 T-Egg Gathering

Hi One and All
Got in about seven thirty this morning from the T-Egg gathering at Don's claim down by Harper Oregon.

It was a long trip down, about eleven hour drive from here. We got in about 11p.m. friday night. Don and his freind Steve were already there. Dave and Livey and their nephew Kevin were there also. We were the last to get in that night. We quickly set up our tent and got things squared then did a little visiting. We all hit the sack about 1:30 a.m. and went quickly to sleep. About five a.m. I got up and started to check out the area. It was a beautiful countryside all around the claim. Lots of rolling hills and a nice draw on the south and east side of the camp site. The little creek on the south side of the camp was full of agates. The evening before Kevin had done some exploring and found some nice stones and a piece of common opal. I walked up the knoll above camp and took some photos of the lay out. I saw T-eggs laying all over the ground, and pieces of t-eggs every where. There were pieces of obsidian, jasper, agate, perlite, apache tears, and pieces with calcite crystals and quartz crystals, And I hadn't even started to hunt yet or dig in the banks. After a short bit I went back to camp. By then Don and Steve and my brother John were up. Dave and livy came out and we started coffee. Steve started checking the hill right above the camp for newly exposed T-eggs and JOhn and Don went up the draw on the east side of camp to look for a new bed. I pulled out some stones and wood I had brought down with mee to show the others and dave brought out some he had brought with him. As we were doing this Don and John came back and Don brought out some he had with him. We had some coffeee and got Kevin and my son Phillip out of there nice warm beds togo to work. We loaded up and headed up the knoll to dig. Dave, Kevin, Phillip, and myself started inone place and Don and Livy and John went to the upper trench.

It didn't take but a few shovel fulls and we started to hit t-eggs. They were in a seam of rotten perlite between two seams of jasper. So from about 6:30am till about 1p,m, we worked that seam pulling out quite a few very nice T-eggs. We went down and had a quick lunch and rehydration break and then headed up to help John muck out where Don had been using the jack hammer. As we were working the end of the trench Al and Jen showed up. After we got all the loose stuff mucked out we spotted some T-eggs and the top of a T-egg tube. Well don started the jack hammer up and started working the walls and pretty soon we had exposed a stack of T-eggs almost as tall as I am. with several very large T-eggs within it. Also the T-egg tube was at leaast two and a half feet tall and crystal filled. We also exposed another tube in front of the stack of T-eggs. So we sent each person into the pit one at a time to dig aout one of the big buggers to keep. Each person there got a very large very nice T-egg out of that stack. Both tubes were also brought out. A little more jack hammer work and mucking and some more eggs were exposed. By now it was time to clean up the site stack the Eggs and head back to camp for chow. I had to be back this morning to do a ceremony so while they cooked and heated coffee I tore down my camp and loaded up. We had some coffee and visited for a short bit and then had Dutch oven PeachCobbler and campmade ice cream with blueberries in it. Wow it was soooo gooood. We visited a short bit more and the about 8pm I had to leave. We got in about 7:30 this morning. We got the rig unloaded and I washed it down since I had traded a friend riggs for the trip and didn't want to give him back a dirty rig. I grabbed my ceremony gear and headed out again. Took care of the ceremony and got back home at 3:30 today. It has been a full and fantastic weekend. I took lots of pics to post and will do that shortly. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

It was a great group of people at a great site in fantastic country. Don was a very gracious host and warm and wonderful friend. Steve was a bit quiet but a very nice guy. He was steadily Working those T-eggs all day. Dave and Livy and Kevin were a lot of fun and made the whole trip better for their being there with Don and Steve. Al was a very outgoing person and quite a character. Jen was a cross country blur. Boy that little gal did some hiking,,lol. John and Phillip were totally worn out. But both of them were totally happy with their first true T-egg hunt. So now it is time to quick wash the Eggs and take a few more pics and then will post them.
So come this September if I am physically able I will be back down there for that gathering and another truly great gathering.
For those of you that were not able to make this one I would greatly urge you not to miss September.
Had A Great Time

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ huh what, oh yeah, there is only one gas station at Harper Oregon. At the end of the building is Crawley road. You take the left onto Crawley rd and stay on that main road for 26.4 miles. There you will see some orange logging flaggers tape tied to sagebrush on both sides of the road where a side road comes in from the left. Take that left and go 4 miles in following the same flagging at the intersections. The elevation is high enough to pop your ears once. It is beautiful country out there. we saw Gold Eagles, Antelope, Hawks, and white tail deer. It is also free range area so you get to see cattle too and the little birdies that go with them.

Unfortunately shoulders won't let me sleep. I tried, got about forty minutes and then they woke me up again. going to be one of those nights till they settle down. But I said I was going to dig at least one and I did. John and Phillip did a lot of digging to help me and they did all thelifting of anything bigger than a few pounds. It took both of them to lift my basketball sized one out of the hole. Every one had alot of laughs. Don is a very nice guy and his freind steve is soft spoken but right in there and a real worker.

The pictures showed a good story. This wiki has opened so many doors to new people, places and things(rocks). I am sure you guys had a good time. The weather looked good. Maybe a bit cool in the morning but the sun was shining at least from the pics. Man some of those were huge eggs. What a place and dig area.

I sure hope you settle down and get some rest. Them dang shoulders. Man pain is not fun!! Take care. Heck I am waiting for my back to give me fits. Jeff and I moved the 10" saw today. The saw wouldn't be to bad by irself, but it is mounted on a 1 1/2" marble slab as a table top. That bugger was heavy! Anyway, it is moved, the genie and trim saw is setup and the new to me faceting machine is also in place. All I need is a big flat lap and then I will be set up pretty dang good! But I think I am going to pay for all that though. Get some sleep man! Paul

Hey paul
Sounds like your "rock/wood shop" is comint together nicely. rmember the floor buffer conversion for a cheap large flat lap. Be careful with htat lifting dude, need you healthy for your vacation and toget you T-Egging in september.

The weather was cool till about 7am then it warmed right up. Dude we did so much laughing my sides hurt as much as my shoulders. Every one helped everyone all day. I did have to speak a tiny bit harshly to Dave once to get him to go down and take his medicine on time but he did it and all went well after. He was really into the eggs but medication needs to be done right. So Livy went down with him and got him squared away and he was back in half an hour and digging away. The wind was not bad at all and like I said we had Eagles and Hawks all day off and on.
Also no buzz tails at all.

Yeah I was going talk to Dave about his sitting position and proper cleaning techniques. I know he is new at it and I am sure he did a great job. I will have to show him a tricks of the trade! lol It looked like a great group of people. But I am sadden to find that you didn't see no buzztails. No ticks either huh? I like a lot of bug juice wneh I am in tick areas. The wild life in the area sounds pretty diverse. Pretty cool man!

As for the shop coming together, I wish I had a shop it would make things easier, There is rock equipmernt spread out all over the place. I need a huge shop for all my stuff! Just a place to store bowls while they dry out would be nice. Anyway, things are getting put together. Just need to finish up on the 24" saw and find that flat lap. The Jeff will have no excuse not to work on rocks!!!! lol Hey I get an egg this weekend too. Mine is not quite as big as yours, well it taint big at all, I think it cost a $1.00 at the club yard sale. 1 egg and a couple of small bags of sunstones and then there was Jeff. egads that kid likes rocks! lol He did buy quite a few slabs for cabbing which is cool. So I got to go rockin' sort of this weekend too. lol Just had to tell ya! Paul
