Finding Treasure Near You
Jun 25 2008, 12:34 AM EDT How do you find out where you can "treasure hunt" in a place near you? I live in Washington State and want to find somewhere I can look for gems! But I don't know where to begin. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jun 25 2008, 3:00 AM EDT Hey Ziac Where do you live in Washington. Perhaps if you fill out your profile it might help others to direct you to collecting sites near you. Check out the wet in Washington thread or the Dry in Washington thread and you will find sites around the state. Tom 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

There are places to go fairly close to the state. Candy Mountion in BC, Emerald Creek for Star Garnets in ID, Sapphires in MT, sunstones and more in OR. There are various publications you may want to pick up and sites to check. The thread Wet in Washington is full of info. http://www.mineralcouncil.org/index.htm http://www.washingtonminerals.com/ http://home.comcast.net/~wams1939/links.htm http://www.dnr.wa.gov/geology/clubs.htm http://www.mineralcouncil.org/club.htm http://www.geologyadventures.com/index.shtml (guided tours) Let us now your general location and maybe we can help you find a place close to your home. But I don't know where to begin."Google, Good Books; Gem Trails of Washington (newer book just came out Dec07) Gems and Minerals of Washington (older out of print harder to find, just got a copy, GREAT) Also go to www.orerockon.com and get Tim's DVD, real valuable www.mineralcouncil.org (Washington State Mineral Council great site!) I also recommend contacting the Washington Depart of Natural Resources Mineral Div. (DNR) There is a lady named Julie who if you ask nice would be more than happy to send you a packet with mineral samples and tons of photocopied material about how they form, where they form, where claims have been in the last hundred years and on and on.. they have the most information i think of any place i can find.. some free, some not .. and of course the best place .. join a rock club in your area.. you can't beat it with a stick , or even two sticks 4 out of 5 found this valuable. Jun 30 2008, 6:49 PM EDT "Thank you all so much. I live near Seattle, if that helps..."Well I hope we helped you to get started and find some treasures. I am sure there is a rock club near you. Those links above should have a list of clubs and then you can get together with them. Keep an eye out on these threads, especially the WA ones. Some of us get together for digs. A great way to meet folks and have blast and even get some rocks too. lol Being on the East side of the state I don't know much about the west side for treasures. But the above mentioned books do and of course there are several “wild man rock hunters” over on the west side that could probably point you i the right direction to find something close to you. There are many knowledgeable and fun people here, use'm! lol Keep rockin'! Paul 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
