I found myself having to wipe my mouth and chin off as a result of drooling as I viewed your recent finds.Nice haul............Oh yeah be sure to leave some(alot) for next fridays treasure hunt on your side of the Mtns.Looking forward to hooking up with you and Tom. Can hardly wait to grow my "A" collection >>>>>>>>>>>>>> A-man. Do you find this valuable?

Very cool pics Syonix.
Be sure to post pics when you slice battle of the bands. I also don't have my own GPS,, I hate when I don't mark a spot on a map - always think I'll remember it. I just did that last night on the web. Found a spot in Illinois to hunt - now I can't find the page again!

Keep on postin'

What beauties!.
I am very envious. there are no areas where a guy can collect agates where I live (Israel) The area I live in is mostly limestone (Eocene) and some sandstones. All my collection has to come from scouring the internet, which means I don't get that trill just after seeing the agate and just before picking it out of the rock. Must be great. Still, one can appreciate beauty of these amazing rocks so please, keep posting the pics.
By the way, I and some colleagues are interested in the "dirt" that is in contact with the agates (the stuff in the pits on the outside surface), so if anybody wants to sell some filthy, uncleaned agates, let me know!

Tom suggested i try Bar Keepers Friend and boiling water for 2 days to clean these.
I am speechless with the results. really. I will have to retake photos tomorrow in the sun after my sunday rock hunt. I am seeing things on these agates that just make me go WOW . i mean i didnt think some of these would clean up that quick and that nice. Tom is the MAN! I've got a dozen or so pounds of other rocks and petwood from that site i havent cleaned or done anything with because i was so focused on the translucent agates now im reall excited about how those will clean up.
I can't wait to see the batch thats tumbling from a month ago as well, i keep forgetting about those.. man im going to be sleeping in piles of agates by the end of summer ill have to send everyone a pretty stone :)

Yes the oxalic acid works well that is in the bar keepers friend. Now to clear something up, do you keep the stuff boiling for 2 days or just mix up the stuff, add the agates, boil and then let sit for 2 days. Just a clarification. It does work better kept warm. Right now in the warm summer and sun sure helps.

Man, Andy the "A" miser is going to be getting some competion here with you finding so many. lol Keep on rockin and I look forward to more pics of your finds. Paul

Well you know I think Rockpuppy was bringing the the stuff up to make them but hit a deer or something like that. geezzzz.

The fire was pretty cool as fires go. Funny them fire fighters won't let you close to the fires to cook them smore thingys. Even if you offer to share! Da bums!!! I had hot dogs too!! Anyway it is out close to town here, but it has moved to the north and east and has gotten into the forest on top of badger mtn. It is around 9000 acreas now. Now they get people evacuating up there. Man it is hot and dry already. August could be really bad over here. Sounds like a good time to go hunt "A"'s eh!!! Paul

Man Tom I sure wish I could get over to WA to find agate with all of you. I've been hunting in the mountains near my house but i've had no luck. I know there are places to find agate in AZ but I just haven't had the time to get to those areas. Where do you buy the Bar keepers? I found a nice cluster of crystals but they have this crusty stuff on the them. Do you think the Bar keepers stuff will help?
Thanks for you help.

I found it in walmart next to the AJAX. works wonders..
my biggest problem come to find out is they lace the water in vancouver with calicum and it adds a whitish tint to everything. so ive cleaned the stones of grime and exposed nice new areas but now thier cloudy when dry. I think next time ill buy distilled water and use that instead.

the ingredient in bar keepers friend that does the cleaning is oxilic acid. You can order it over the internet. I tell about bar keepers friend togive people an easy source to get a sample of what it can do.

That makes sense. my parents told me they use oxilic acid exclusivly and it does a bang up job.. however it was darn expensive like $8 an oz at thier local store and that only makes a few batches.. I've got the second batch brewing right now :)

Hey syonix just go to ebay and do a search on oxalic acid. You can "buy it now" for a little of $2 per ounce and that includes shipping. You can get a 1/2 pound or more. Paul
