"Hey syonix just go to ebay and do a search on oxalic acid. You can "buy it now" for a little of $2 per ounce and that includes shipping. You can get a 1/2 pound or more. Paul"
opps a little over $2 per oz. I have purchased mine the eBay. Also when cleaning your stones, after the Bar Keepers Friend, you may need to use a toothbrush and work the stone with the brush. Maybe use a little dish soap while brushing. If you don't have an extra toothbrush, be sure to grab your wife’s and use hers. I know my wife really likes it when I use hers. Hmmm, maybe that is one reason why I only had 2 kids nearly 2 decades ago. I must ponder this further.. ;-) Also a dental pick or tool can help to get the small cracks and crevices clean. If you don't have any, next time you go to the dentist, ask if you can have some of the retired tools. They generally keep them for people like us. At least mine does. But if you ask, the Dr may save some for you. But they are nice to have around. The tools are brittle so don't over do on the pressure as they may break. Hope this helps a little. Paul

When I hunted crystals in KY earlier this year, the guy who took me told me to clean with muriatic acid. Pour some in a bowl with H2O. I used a soft toothbrush with them. They came out nice, but one geode turned yellow because I left it in straight acid and got distracted for awhile.

I've since read that it's a good idea to rinse with baking soda water to counteract the acid when you're done. You guys have any experience with this acid? (I never knew to wash my agates in anything other than the hose - I'll have to try it)

I've also read that a water pik will rinse out small crevices. I don't have one anymore to try - have to put that on my yard-sale shopping list.

Muriatic acid does a good job. Yet aw you discovered it does have a yellowing effect. That is why I use oxilic acid. It does not leave your stones discolored. I generally let them soak rel good them dump in some baking soda to setttle down the acid and always wear rubber gloves. Then I take them out and put them in the wifes dish washer and use cascade to finish them off. Cause we all know Cascade doesn't leave sppot's,,lol.
Oh yeah make sure to remove stones from dishwasher before wife gets home,,lol, not good if she finds them there,,lol. See you may be a rock hound if,,

Using muratic acid works as good or better than the oxalic acid. Dilution is very important. Also yellowing can be caused by sunlight during the cleaning. So if using muratic acid be sure to it in the shade or dark area and only soak them as long as there is a reaction - the bubbling. I have seen recommendations to use muratic acid if the oxalic acid doesn’t work. Just be sure to clean the rock very well before putting it into the muratic acid. Sometimes no matter what is use, yellowing does occur Paul

I use oxalic acid to clean and it works great. I have tired muratic but have been disappointed with the green stains that it causes. I heat the water to boiling and pour it into an old ice chest with my rocks and acid. Caution should be taken when cleaning any mineral specimen. First determine if the acid will attack the mineral before putting it in acid.

Bill,
Billie makes some beautiful jewelry shown on your profile. Want to see the jewelry when she's done with the kidney agate.

Thanks for the link., everyone can use a cheep cheep source; because all the money goes into the gas tank: :( It's cutting down on the number of trips I am taking.

I hope Jake didn’t find them all. :) My camping trip got cancelled for this weekend, but I am still going to go and try to find some agate in the mountains tomorrow. Make sure you guys take lot of pictures so we all can enjoy the hunt a little also. By the way how is your shoulder feeling? I hope it is getting better.
Good Hunting
