How did you come across so much agate from Patagonia? There is some Condor from Argentina but not much is offered from Patagonia. There is also fantastic wood from Patagonia. Have you collected agatized wood? Thank you for sharing such incredible pieces.

WOW! It would be hard to put a value on some of those nodules. They are one of a kind.
I also collect agates and have wrote a scientific article on the mechanism of agate formation. Some of the nodules show the classic escape tube.

The ones you know as "Condor" , are not from Patagonia. They become from "Mendoza" Province ; the distance between the sources (Patagonia and "Mendoza " )is of about 1.500 kilometers)
It is not allowed to collect pet wood or other fossils, but we do come across pine -cones , that we have to leave them where they are :((
As it is a hobby for us , we just collect them for fun (specially , the long trips are fun). We always find new landscapes and they are our relax from the crazy City where we live (Buenos Aires). We do assist to Fairs (Tucson 07/08/ and will be during 09) and recently in the event "The Wonderful World of Agates" , at the Weis Museum in Menasha , Wi.

I'd be very interested in reading your article on the mechanism of agate formation. Is it online anywhere or accessible? It never ceases to amaze me all of the variety and differences.
Thanks,
Dan

Dear Dan : Probably you read about some books written by Terry Moxon from the UK.
I have read some other books , but gave up on trying to understand about the formation of agates . I just leave it to experts :) My final conclusion , is that Claudia and I collect agates , just because we love them , as well as the long , long trips involved.
Best regards from far away Argentina

Hey Tom, that would be cool to see a carved fluorescent chalcedony then shine the light. It could create some neat shades and shadows in the carving. Do one and let us know how it comes out. Great idea!

Paul
