Types of Opal in Oregon

Hey, we have been out and about some this summer, and have found what we think is a type of opal. Up in the Ochoccos and in the Blues (Umatilla National Forest). The Ochocco stuff is mainly white-ish with some slight pink in it, and the stuff we found in the Blues tends to be clearer. The Ochocco stuff is for the most part, very crumbly. I am wondering if you can find stable pieces, can they be made into jewelry? Is it desirable? I know up at Richardsons you can find some of the really blue stuff (my son was there with someone and did not pick some up for me!!!) and also would like some for working with. Here is another question about it all. Can this "common/Oregon" opal be cut, ground down, or carved into? Does it break really easy? Last, does anyone know of one site that gives good descriptions, pictures and data on the types of opal here in Oregon? Do you find this valuable?
